I bought myself the Samsung NC215P solar power netbook yesterday (Samsung in Canal Walk) and I am immensely impressed with this little wonder of a machine. It exceeds my expectations by miles ... and at R3800 it is a bargain. Got everything I need ... 2GB RAM, latest Atom CPU, enough USB ports (3), HDMI, VGA, ethernet, SD card reader ... and the battery lasts forever. The keyboard is fantastic with keys widely spaced for easy error free typing. Everyone is so onto ultrabooks and tablets these days and here is an affordable little gem hidden away that makes so much sense.

But does it have a touchscreen?

I'll wait for my Surface thanks...

Yes I know it will have less specs but everything I normally need for mobile computing is already covered on a Eee pad so do not see why the surface would be any different.

I've been looking for a nice Ultrabook but they're scarce...and expensive. Not spending that kind of cash online, I want to see and feel it first. :)

Currently have the Samsung N150+ (for very occasional use), but it is dog slow...so looking for an upgrade on speed (may also be the 1Gb RAM?). Also the 10" is just too small to properly view certain websites like Sars and VIP Liquid opening pdf's in-screen, you have to scroll too much.

The NC215P looks like a decent upgrade, other than the screen which is the same.

This solar thingy feature look like a gadget, not practical solution. Question is how much it adds to a total weight and still needs a charger for fast recharge or continuous work (I think). I have yet look at, but I would perhaps prefer lower weight on normal package.
Also buying today device with USB2.0 is questionable. Some basic office work, yes. But if you want some fun, movies, streaming to home centre, basic games, AMD E450 looks very attractive.

@undesign:
Windows XP? 1GB RAM is fine. Otherwise add memory.

Or downgrade to XP. With W7 starter you need new license, this is what I have heard.

Guys, I have all the other stuff better suited for specific tasks but for web browsing and MS Office tasks on the move this netbook is awesome. R3800. Cheaper than most tablets and I have a very decent keyboard and all the standard ports I need. The battery life is amazing. Nothing else like it. The solar panel adds no weight. This thing is very light and small ... as big as my SGT 10.1 but thicker. No regrets whatsoever.

BTW its even got a 360GB HDD ... not bad. For the money this is one cool mobile solution.

It does look pretty sweet.

Got mine last year & not had any issues. For my application of documents on the move & long battery life it gets my thumbs up! Also charges my Blackberry via USB when the netbook is switched off in the bag.
