So I signed up for Netflix yesterday using my FNB credit card and all went well, until i opened my Email this morning and received something from FNB that I need to authenticate a transaction on my CC from Netflix.com.

Is this normal? Did anyone else with FNB receive an email from them asking to authenticate transactions?

Also I signed up for the free trial on Netflix anyway so how come they charging me for the first month?

My GF had a Netflix charge bounced by Standard Bank. This is after using them for a while.

Not sure what the banks are up to, they seem to let large, sometimes fraudulent foreign charges through, but bounce legitimate regular charges of about USD8 ? Their fraud departments seem to be run by idiots.

Sound legit, most banks do get suspicious when an international charge comes off the card.
As for the charge for month 1 they normally do that to authenticate the card, and refund immediately - but banks take a few days to process the credit.
This happens even when you update your card details as well.

Ok I see, thanks. I had to call them because they temporarily blocked my credit card :wtf:

Anyway sorted it out with them now.

On another note I'm so glad I signed up, goodbye Dstv :D

I also just signed up as well as Hulu+... best decision ever

Legit. Happened the first time I renewed my domains with hover.com. Thereafter never again. Used my card overseas without any issues too...

Probably just because it's international. My bank did the same with my first Steam purchase. You shouldn't have to do it again though.

Just came from helping a friend of mine setup Netflix and she got the error about a problem with the payment/card. She is using a FNB Visa credit card and first tried 90210 as the zip code then 08001 (Cape Town with 0 in front) and still got the problem. She then switched to her debit FNB Visa debit card with the same result. Since we tried a few times do you think its blocked by Netflix or FNB or is it a zip code thing. Any suggestions or similar experiences?

Just guessing here, but 90210 is not like her post code at all, and I'd imagine no US zip codes start with a 0. Maybe try googling her real post code with a 1 in front and work your way up to 9 if necessary before you find a real one.

FYI, I used an FNB cheque card and put a 1 in front of my post code and it worked okay.
