Netflix buffering

Pointless side note: The term "buffering" in an IT context used to mean that a datastream is written to a temporary storage space (called a buffer), usually with the aim of smoothing dataflow and preventing intermittency or latency caused by delays in incoming or outgoing processing.

So, the intermittent or interrupted playback of the Netflix video described above is caused by poor or inadequate buffering - the exact opposite of the way it is used above.

For IT people, the more commonly used term to describe intermittent or interrupted playback is stuttering.

Of course I know what you mean. Just sayin'.

Now back to topic.

In engineering the term 'bandwidth' means a range of frequencies. Nothing to do with speed. But with the advent of computers and IT it has taken on a new meaning of speed or throughput.
