Netflix: Messiah

brilliant series, asks some very hard questions if the messiah were to come in modern times,
would Humanity even recognize him as in the scriptures.

loved the part at the end, leaving open to another follow up series.

3/10 for being so open ended. They probably could have made it in half the number of episodes.

While I agree it could have been shorter I’m not understanding your open ended comment.

If you mean the fact that the show never truly chose a side, that to me was part of its brilliance as it never gets matter of fact about anything and changes the viewer’s perception constantly.

And if you are referring to the final scene that very clearly chose a side and the very last shot was actually quite brilliant in the context and the impact of breaking the fourth wall. Even as an atheist I could appreciate it’s direction.

Agree absolutely, keeps you guessing, and then you start to think, what does it matter if he's real or not, the question is rather, is what he's saying true or misguided?

What the hell show did they watch to come to that conclusion?

If anything he was entirely sexless.

He was also never called Jesus or Christ even once, purposely so.
I was totally wondering the same thing.

I'm a few episodes into the series and really like the premise. There is a lot of potential especially with the Christ/Antichrist/Charlatan vibe going on and the response of the secular world to this.

What I found a bit pedestrian is the character development (outside of Al-Masih) - especially for a Netflix Original. I wouldn't have minded longer episodes to get this. I'm almost done with the season, and will watch subsequent seasons but I think there is definite room for improvement on sub-plots and character development. I can understand why it's been a hit with viewers but not as well received by critics.

It's more of a socio-/geo- political drama than a religious drama, and the extensive use of TV, News, and social media demonstrates this.

I suspect that Al-Masih/Payam Golshiri is the Antichrist and Jibril is the Messiah, but doesn't realise it yet.

I had the very same thoughts until that final scene.

****

Oh sorry you haven’t finished it; maybe don’t read the spoiler until then.

Then he does the fourth wall breaking thing looking at the viewer and asking them to judge themselves effectively and I figured that’s pretty black and white and a solid ending.

Sadly Hollywood being Hollywood I suspect it won’t just end there and instead it carry on and be diluted to death until nobody cares.

Also if Jibril is the Messiah what is the girl?

I was a bit disappointed I must admit that the big turncoat reveal ended up not being one at all.

When he gets in the car with Aviram willingly and I think the episode ends there as well you get the vibe that he was in on it from the start. So I was like oh cool that’s an angle I didn’t expect and doesn’t make sense, let’s hope the final episode surprised us. And then it just went nowhere.

in Arabic he was called 'isa, and that is essentially the same as jesus.
just they avoided calling him Jesus for the English speaking world.

Yes so he was never actually called that.

Also we’ve since realised they lost the plot and referred to a different show.

Which I’ll now watch, so that bombed on them.
