Netflix vs ShowMax vs FrontRow vs Vidi - pricing and content comparison

"Netflix vs ShowMax vs FrontRow vs Vidi - pricing and content comparison"

I must have missed this part, as it wasn't in the article I read.

The table below compares how the streaming services available in South Africa compare to one another, and to Netflix US.
But it's Netflix US content plus Netflix UK plus Netflix Mexico plus every other single country that has Netflix available. If you can get one you can get them all with a service like Unotelly.

Nice, they charge you in $ so its not R99.

Paypal do not charge in ZAR, so if you choose to pay by PayPal you'll always be charged in USD.

And a quick correction on Vidi content: Vidi offers up to Full HD but it's not available on all titles. The catalogue is also larger than that quoted in the article as the baseline+ number...

They should make sure it R99 or less and not more, nice that the make an extra R9 per paypal transaction.

Currency rates change every few hours on PayPayl. Possibly smaller intervals, in fact. They could setup an API interface to PayPal and update their commerce side based on PayPayl's currency rates I suppose...

You will see on the screenshot it does provide the exchange rate, they should be able to use that to calculate the dollar amount.

Exchange rate: 1 ZAR = 0.0733550 USD

PayPal add that on the checkout page. Think there was some misunderstanding about my post though - the pricing should be tied on their front-end to the conversion rates from PayPal - i.e. dynamically generated to an extent...

Content is not really measured in titles

I would rather buy a service with 5 modern series than (say) have 5000 hallmark movie titles (no offence intended)

technically showmax is not 720p, but rather is up to 720p...

Maybe they only provide the exchange rate after the transaction. The extra R9 is not the end of the world, seems they used R13.51/$ exchange rate.

No, PayPal have an adaptive payments currency checker API in place. It's a marketing decision to do this, that's all...

So on 1:01pm its 9.00 usd, but you take 1 minute longer and then its actually 8.50 usd as the transaction goes through?

Unless you are directly plugged to bank, pp and currency you will never get exact and true amount of R99.000

You certainly can, and most large companies employ treasury functions for this purpose where their currency exposure is fixed.

In this case I imagine it's just Showmax trying to allow for new payment methods though, and PayPal dictate those and only charge in USD in SA...

I doubt it. Down to exactly R99.0000 ?; I would like to see that code block / implementation. You will always have a little more or less when you have exact precision in place.
