Netflix vs ShowMax

I am considering ditching dstv for showmax. I have a 2mb line currently. My question is will I watch for 10seconds, wait for the buffer to load for 10 seconds and watch again for 10seconds? I can upgrade to 4mb if this will allow buffer free watching but going 10mb is too expensive for me. Looking to save some dough every month.

I've had showmax since it launched and netflix SA since it launched. Since netflix SA launched i've found showmax to be seriously lacking. I've just cancelled my showmax subscription in favor of netflix SA

You'll be a lot happier upgrading to 4Meg.

My dad has 4mb line and netflix and streams 480p and 720p no issues he is on vox fat pipe.

I saw this while back

SD = 360p/480p = 100 - 150 KBps 2mb line
HD l = 720p = 190 -230KBps 2 to 4mb line
HD h = 1080p = 280 - 400KBps depending on audio 4mb line + is needed.

Ok thanks. I was on 4mb some time back and wanted to cut costs, now I need to do it again unfortunately.
Is there any way to get a trail account at showmax without giving card details? Or even better if there is 1 show I can watch just to test the buffering. It can be any show no matter how stupid. I saw some free shows when showmax started but now I can't find any.

Nothing surprising about the results.

UnoTelly is a DNS service by the way. They offer a VPN service if you pay more.

Showmax has a good content library and I'd be quite happy paying for it except that it's incompatible with Chromecast and doesn't stream in 1080. I don't use a VPN atm.

You can buy prepaid ShowMax cards at many stores.

I know that. I am looking to test the buffering. Not wanting to pay R100 and after 2minutes realizing that it buffers so much that I need to delete the application as it is of no value...

The survey should have asked who has DSTV purely for Supersport. I would cancel DSTV right now if it wasn't for the sport.

No it will not buffer at all on 2MB. I had showmax, you can expect DVD quality streaming.

Best you Tweet them...they are fairly response there.

Be that as it may it's an ace up its sleeve in SA. The wording could have been better yes.

I do all my "other" content in 720p so that's all good for me.

No streaming service will give a free trial without a credit card. Why does it matter to you? You can cancel as soon as you've signed up if you so choose. It's a small inconvenience for a 7 day trial.

Showmax wants to compete with Netflix but after 6 months they still don't have apps out for Apple TV, Roku etc. This is a serious blunder from their side. Don't they understand that accessibility is key?
