Netgear d7000 modem/router

Hi i have a Netgear modem/router that each morning and sometimes other times as well is connected to the internet but i cant get any data through as if the dns is not working i have tried anther modem and is working fine. tried resetting the modem and switching off dos setting and data monitor also tried different dns settings with out any luck. This D7000 is supposed to have a three year warranty but now if i log in to get support i get told that my email and chat support have ended as I am in the last year(third year) of the warrenty and i need to phone a premium support number in the USA. How can this be that there i no local support for this product I purchased it in south africa from a large computer retailer or is the last year just to get you to give them more money through there high priced support phone number in the USA?
