Cousin of mine acquired one of these routers, filled in all the account details etc etc. It connects to the internet, but nothing works. It worked briefly for about an hour and then it died again. It's not the Telkom line. And they've already swopped out the router. We're a little stumped.

new line?
Computers definitely picking up IP information from the router?

Yep - it is a new line. Has been verified already. As I mentioned, it even worked perfectly for a while. According to the router status it's definitely logged on in the 41.x.x.x range. But you can't browse or anything.

Set up the local area network settings on your pc again and reboot. If it still doesn't work, disconnect the modem and reconnect.

check the VCI & VPI, a client bought one the otherday and it was set to 0 & 38, its meant to be 8 & 35.

Will try that, but we've rebooted everything/restored router to factory settings/used 3 different computers so many times that I doubt that will help. And updated the firmware. Any port in a storm though.

Did that.

Hi cablemonkey

Was anything done to it in that hour for it to stop working?
Check the system log (if it has something like that) for any strange errors.

Double check all your settings again, some routers after modifying their settings you still need to browse to another location to select the Save and Reboot option.

Is the routers DHCP enabled?
Is your default gateway for your PC set to the routers IP?

Nope... nothing was done to it... all the settings were fine. Nothing was changed on the router - it worked and then it didn't. Went over everything with a fine-toothed comb. Eventually they got fed up and swopped it for one of those Telkom Mega 105WR's. Which works just perfectly.
