How do i put the router into bridge mode? i've entered the router's settings and under basic settings im presented with the option: Does your internet connection require a login 1.) yes 2.) no 3.) bridge.
After i select bridge then what do i do next? directly below the above options is input boxes for account name and domain name..

thanks in advance

okay basically im goin to select bridge mode. After that create a new internet connection and dial into my new isp. what i would like to know is how whether my wireless will still work and whether i can connect automatically without dialling in. I have two pc's. at the moment both automatically connect to telkom isp once the pc is on. What i would like to do is connect to telkom from one pc and connect to mweb with the other automatically.

Primo:
If the router is in bridge mode, you will still be able to access LAN devices via wireless/LAN cable without dialing a PPPoE connection.
However, in bridge mode, you won't have ANY Internet access until you dial a PPPoE connection from the PC/network device itself.

Generally putting the router in bridge mode is a bad idea.

99.9% of the time the best option is to let the router dial the connection(s).
However, you'll often find that the cheap ADSL routers can't dial multiple accounts - or at least their web interface doesn't allow you to - so you'll have to resort to bridge (or half-bridge) mode to connect to multiple PPPoE accounts.

Primo: could you tell me what exactly you want to do and why you wanted to set the router in bridge mode in the first place?

Okay basically im on telkom do broadband 2 with my 5gb cap connected wirelessy to all my pc's in the flat. I want to get a second isp, mweb uncapped so that i can download various things. I wanna be able to use both isp's from my one pc and i want only the telkom on my second pc. basically i want my personal laptop to have both isp's only. now once i sign up for mweb i'll recieve my username and password. It is at this poin that i am unsure as what to do next.. i have the router as stated above. currently my telkom settings are dialled into the router and my pc's are always connected to that account.

How you going to split the traffic? i.e if there are two concurrent connections, don't think you'll be able to say "download this file with that connection" unless there was some splitting strategy in place, like local vs. international. You're probably also better having a router that supports PPPoE pass-through so you can optionally dial from the PC, not sure how this will affect your traffic splitting though.

various things

Linux ISOs? ;)

The best solution in your case would be to use a router with PPPoE pass-through, where the router can dial a PPPoE connection, while it still allow connections to be dialed from PC's.
In this case you'll let the router dial the Telkom account and then you just dial the Mweb account from your laptop. Only problem is that I'm not sure if your router supports PPPoE pass-through / PPPoE relaying / half-bridge mode.

The second option would be to put the router in bridge mode, like you originally wanted to do, and then dial the 2 (Mweb + Telkom) PPPoE connections from your laptop and the Telkom account from the 2nd PC.

The other issue is that I'm now sure on how exactly you want to go about dialing 2 PPPoE connections from 1 PC, because you can't simply tell Application A to use the Telkom account and the other applications to use the Mweb account - or at least not in Windows.
If you can tell me how you want to split the traffic between the 2 accounts I can try assist you.

DG834G v 3 I have this repeated problem. It goes down anything from once every two days to three or four times a day - this being the most frequent. I cannot detect any particular set of circumstances that lead up to it; we may be on-line, we may not. When it goes down it is not just the Telkom ADSL but the system. We unplug, wait for 30 seconds and it resets.

SET-UP: connected to three desktops by cable, plus one wirelessly. All use Windows 7. I have read the thread and do not have the problems suggested: i.e. it is vertically free- mounted and does not seem to overheat. It is on the main UPS and probably should not have low voltage. I note the UK-type plug-transformer, but this does not seem to make a bad connection. Was last updated I think about 12 months ago. Surges seem unlikely as there have been no lightning storms.

Anybody got any ideas how I could handle this?

Hi Pada

I went with PPPoe pass through and it works perfect. Thanks for all the help
