We bought a DGN-2000 on the 14th, pluged it in and it worked fine. We were having great 3meg speeds for a sum total of 2 days, then everything came crashing down...

(I will code the story for the TLDRers)

Code:
Phone call after phone call to Axxess and Telkom resulted in techies being sent to our house. Long story short, Axxess blames Telkom and Telkom says its not them.

I have tried both my Axxess accounts, and a Telkom ADSL account, but the router refuses to login. I've had Telkom reset my ports, I've had Telkom test my line, I've had Axxess login to the exchange and test my line - believe me, I've had everything tested.

Thing that irks me is it worked for 2 days - we didn't change a setting. Now nothing works. It just refuses to login, but it syncs to the exchange at 3meg down, 512k up.

But now comes the fun bit:

I take the router back to BTGames Northgate, reciept and alles, had it into the couter and the guys says: "Give me half an hour to test it", so we go off to Wimpy for breakfast. Even longer story of being bored waiting in the store for and hour after Wimpy, the guy says he sees it syncs, but cant get it to work himself. At this point we breath a sigh of relief - at least we know that it was the router that was wrong all along. So now it is sitting in BTGames Northgate with the guy fiddling with it, but since today is the 24th, he cant just give us a new one
Anywho, I want to know if anyone has experienced any similar problems with the DGN-2000. The settings we were using are

VPI 8
VCI 35
Multiplexing LLC-BASED

Which as far as I can tell are what they are meant to be.

Can anyone tell me what settings I can ask the guy at BTGames to try before he sends it off on Monday and I have no chance for ADSL for a month?...

Nope settings are right, one of my new ADSL lines have an even more purplexing issue where it can sync, connect, and browse for around 10seconds then no more http traffic. Multiple routers doing the same thing on the line :P

Your settings do appear correct, have you tried reverting back to factory defaults and setting it up from scratch? Don't ask me why, but I've worked on quite a number of Netgears where everything appears to be correct, but it just doesn't want to connect properly, after a reset it comes right.

If that doesn't work, perhaps try a custom firmware from DGTeam? http://dgteam.ilbello.com/index.php?pid=17

The DGN2000 is supported and provides a whole lot more information which might help you pinpoint the problem? Just be sure to download an official firmware from Netgears site before flashing with the custom firmware, so you can flash it back or you'll void the warranty when returning the Router.

I have a Netgear DG834G and multiplexing is set to VC not LLC.
Is that perhaps the problem?Dont understand multiplexing so wouldnt know personally.

Hi, I have the exact same problem, only it happened with my 9 year old D-Link and replaced it with a brand new DGN2000 this morning, still no joy, exactly the same problem, it synchs, but I can't connect (both routers.) Tried my Axxess account and my two WebAfrica accounts, nada. This started yesterday (23 Sept). I logged a fault at Telscum, but with this weekend being a looong weekend, I don't expect any miracles....

Settings are same as mine & same router.

Tell the BT dude you want a working router asap. Its bullsht that to sell stuff that even the staff can't get to work.

I assume you've done a hard reset? What does the log say (netgear logs tend to be thin on info though)? Line stats normal?

oh and the code thing isn't an improvement as it doesn't wordwrap, rather quote.

Just a quick reply, this issue is 99% of the time on Telkom's side and can be easily solved by them simply resetting your DSLAM port (think that's what it's called.) Got a very informative Telkom techie to finally solve my problem with the ADSL synching but not being able to connect, took him all of 5 minutes to sort it out after I logged a fault more than a week ago :(

Meh our 2nd DSL line still is unable to connect even when synching and has been reset more times than I care to remember ;)
