Hi guys,

I've been connecting my laptop wirelessly to the router for a while now..just a basic home adsl setup..and even had it on a LAN cable. Everything works fine. Last night i tried connecting my old Pentium 4 Win XP Prof PC to the router, but just couldn't get the setup going. I keep getting "Limited connectivity" notification. This should be a very simple task to accomplish. The router is setup as DHCP, but when i request a new IP address from the XP box i get an error.

Is there anyone who can help with basic checks i should perform if everything is in place?

I have a DGN-2000 however I bought a new DG384 netgear yesterday because the DGN was just giving me grief. The wireless would work for a couple of hours and then disconnect all the wifi connections and refuse reconnection. Can turn off the encryption, change channels and go crazy on the wifi but it still refuses, even if you reboot the device. So in general my point is to say that I'm not surprised you're having issues with the DGN; I have not had much success.

However, my cable-based connections to the router work fine (had to lay a cable through my house) so seemingly unrelated to your issue. But its not a great router.

im using the dgn-2000 as well and all my devices are connected through wireless with no issues at the moment. Laptop, desktop, phone etc etc. Is your desktop connection wired or wireless?

I think that you should first check settings on your XP machine....

I had a DGN 2000 that was a a nightmare. Resolved the problem by buying an Airport Extreme. Never touching netgear again

Not good to hear :(
Maybe i should try a firmware update. What i cant understand is, if i switch off my laptop's wireless; plug in the same network cable running to the XP box, everything works perfectly.no problems. this is giving me headaches.

The XP machine is a wired connection. It has a fresh Windows installation, don't even have anti-virus installed yet and firewall disabled.

I've been thinking now, and i don't think it's a problem with the router actually, because earlier i connected my LCD tv to the router, DHCP and everything worked 100%. Just to confirm - the lights at the back of my lan port on my pc (which is actually a pci lan card as my board didn't have onboard LAN - can you believe it) they should be lit if the cable is plugged in between the pc and the router even if pc is switched off? Because i don't recall the lights going on, so im thinking the problem could potentially be the ethernet card.
