Hi Guys

Is there a setting on the Netgear DGN2000 that allows it to dectect ADSL+2 for 10meg ? My exchange is up and running on 10 meg I'm 1.5km away from exchange but still only sync at 4 meg. For some reason, is there anything I need to setup on the modem ? Some oke on this post ( http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/198761-Netgear-DGN2000-Wireless-issues ) seems to think there's a setting you can change to flip between ADSL and ADSL+2 unless he's mistaken.

Thanks.

Unless someone else on your exchange has been upgraded, the best thing you can do is wait until Telkom upgrades your profile.

Most modems / routers are set to auto detect the settings from the exchange so the mom's and pop's don't have to :D

Hang in there buddy, your profile upgrade is on its way :)

DMT v8.07 - Windows2000/XP/Vista should do the job for you unless you would rather telnet your router .
To gain access to the telnet service on the router, you must first enable debug mode on the router by entering the following link in your browser : 192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?todo=debug
This assumes that your router IP has not been changed from the default of 192.168.0.1 of course.

telnet 192.168.0.1
adslctl configure --mod p
adslctl info --stats

The last character indicates the ADSL mode you want it changed to:

d = G.dmt
2 = ADSL2
p = ADSL2+

Thanks guys,

@Skynews running on Mac this side I suppose I'll just have to be patient.

Just google DGteam and update your firmware with their hacked firmware. Adds tons more features

I recently found out about this firmware and much to my surprise supported my DG834 v1.0, i did the upgrade and its much easier than telnetting etc however i have to be patient as they haven't upgraded our exchange and changing the modulation does not yield anything positive. So do as Optimal01 suggests however you will have to join the waiting game , just not as long as some of us :) gl

I never had to change anything on my DGN2000, I just noticed it was synching at 10MB last week Monday.

I live in Cape Town and my ISP is...er.....Telkom.... I don't suppose you are as well? IF you are have you had problems with it's installation?
I keep getting the Internet led lit in RED. The Netgear trouble shooter does not help. Did you do an automatic install - mine does not detect the DNS address.

Hi, this is the email I received from Telkom. There is a link which you can use to see if you were already cut over from a 4Mb/s to 10M/s. Of course the 10MB/s does not seem to work well. Telkom had to take my speed down from 10MB/s to 5Mb/s as it would only sync at 5Mb/s.

TELKOM UNVEILS HIGHER SPEED ADSL

INTERNET users who need the speed are in for big benefits from Telkom’s latest network upgrade.

Within weeks of rolling out substantially expanded data packages, the company today announced that TelkomInternet will increase the speed of it its Fastest DSL offering to “up to10 Mbps”, effective immediately.

Previously, the network was capable of providing Telkom’s Fastest DSL product offering at speeds of up to 4096 kbps. Telkom is now enhancing its ADSL network to support ADSL speeds of up to 10Mbps in all areas which have suitable technology at exchanges to support the upgrade.

All upgrades therefore remain subject to localised line conditions and the type of equipment available at the nearest exchange.

The10 Mbps ADSL speed is an innovative enhancement to the existing Fastest DSL product, which now allows users to potentially burst at 10 Mbps.

The upgrade is focussed around 4Mbps users who currently sync at full profile speed. This means that 10 Mbps will initially have a limited footprint, but this footprint will increase as Telkom expands its Metro Ethernet E and ADSL2+ presence.

A phased approach was implemented, due mainly to the fact that the number of services that qualify for a 4 Mbps to 10 Mbps upgrade are constantly increasing.

Customers can use an online availability check tool to establish the status of upgrades in their area. The availability checker can be found on the following web pages:
http://www.telkom.co.za/products_services/dsl/ordering.html

http://www.telkom.co.za/products_services/dsl/conditions.html

Recently, Telkom announced increases in the allocated blended bandwidth of some of its data packages at no additional cost to customers. The latest speed upgrade will also be at no additional cost to customers.

The increase in allocated blended bandwidth, together with the improvement in speed, will have significant benefits for a wide range of users.

For more information please contact the TelkomInternet call centre by dialling 10215.

Ok When I try do the mod p command, my router just endlessly trys to sync but cant. I have to reboot my router then it can sync again, but at the G.dmt mode. Should I be more patient?
These new upgrades are really frustrating as my line is worse now than what it was at 4096! :(

Just often my browser sits endlessly trying to connects and torrents are non existent now! So I have to reboot my router almost 3 times daily!

The problem is your attentuation is really high (meaning you are far from the exchange) and your SNR is low. This is probably the reason for you bad experience. But before coming to this final conclusion just check your ADSL filters are fine.

Attenuation is not too bad you SNR however is way too low. You should be above 20. On 4mbps my attenuation is 49.5 and my SNR is 20.5. I only just get a decent 4mbps service.

when it was on just 4Mb my SNR was about 15.. and my line was perfect. no drops, and latency was awesome for gaming.. now they just screwed my line up! Will have to phone and get them to only sync it at only 4096 I suppose..

Found this - solved my problem (along with a reset from my ISP Telkom - thanks Spaj.....

I have the DGN2000, similar I would think. The internet icon only lights green if you have your login/password details entered in the router and a connection is established. I run mine in PPPoE Relay mode (Bridge Mode?) and the internet icon remains red although connected. AFAIK you should be using PPPoE encapsulation LLC Multiplexing VPI=8 VCI=35. The Wizard on my model is useless, locked up constantly, could not detect the correct multiplexing, insisted on using VC based ?

nakedpeanut: I would recommend that you ask Telkom to downgrade your line to 4Mbps again so that you'll have stable connection.

I noticed that I was on 10M a few weeks before Telkom made the announcement. Just a few weeks after the announcement I am struggling to get my line working. Originally syncing on 10Mb, then only 5Mb and then 4Mb. I reported it to Telkom and the call centre guy said that my connection tested intermitend towards the exchange. That problem disappeared after 2 days and from one person to another testing my line said that nothing seems to be wrong. At this stage my line can sync's at 4Mb but I cannot get my internet to work. I have tested it a few times, when they put my line at 2Mb I have get internet connection, but at 4Mb it just won't work. Netgear router, model no. DG834GU v5. They suggested I get another router. Let see what happens.

I have noticed some Netgear routers having problems with ADSL2+, though not all, but in some cases it helped forcing those routers back to G.DMT to get a more stable experience.

Just google DGteam and update your firmware with their hacked firmware. Adds tons more features

What is the difference between all the version

DGN2000_V1.1.8.0_DGTeam_1018_eng_adsldrv023b.img
DGN2000_V1.1.8.0_DGTeam_1018_eng_adsldrv023o.img
DGN2000_V1.1.8.0_DGTeam_1018_eng_adsldrv026.img

I can`t find a changelog (or keep missing it)
