Netgear DGN2200M v2 keeps resetting

Hmm, this router just gives me more problems. I can't connect to the internet if I put my details as the default method of connecting to the internet through the routher page. But if I used the same details as a ppoe (dail up connection) it works fine. Telkom says I am connecting to them through the guest@telkom account. I tried resetting it but with no luck.

Think I am going to get myself the unbranded version somewhere

i have to tell you about my experience. this is what i put on hello peter:

My Telkom router Model Number: DGN2200, its the netgear telkomrouter, it constantly reboots on its own at least once a day which is very anoying. i did a bit of research and found out that its a constant fault with these routers. so i called telkom to explain my situation, the guy onthe phone informed to take into a telkom direct store and they will replace it.i went to the telkom store, had to walk from work, in the heat, whilst fasting, when i get there the guy tells me that i gotta bring it in with everything it came with and the box and i need to get a reference number from telkom. he informed me i need to call in and report the fault first. so the first agent gave me wrong info. i went home and called in and after going through 3 people a guy gives me a reference number and assures me that they will replace it. today i take everything, take it in with my reference number. i get there, wait in the queue, when its my turn the guy behind the counter starts to fiill in my home number and tells me that its not under contract so for them to replace it i need to sign a contract and i couldnt cos i didnt have my id present. the agent who installed and the line made me sign so i dunno.

from what i have read the telkom branded routers, the firmware cannot be updated? correct? i tried anothe router and didnt have this issue.

abukid - don't let them talk bs to you about the contract nonsense.
You don't have to sign a contract.
By law that modem is under warranty and as such should be replaced.

are you 100% sure? i dont wanna go there for nothing again.

From the terms and conditions;

A free WiFi modem will be issued. The normal standard Telkom modem warranties will apply.

The 24 month debit order contract applies to their laptop, easi-net and tablets.

Thought I'd add my 2 cents. Got a Telkom DGN2200 in January of this year, and since day 1 I've had the restarting issue. Somehow just kept procrastinating about making the effort to get it back to Telkom till today.

Thanks to the posts here I was fully prepared, armed with the reference number and all bits and bobs back in the original box, and they replaced the router without much hassle at all. Except while I was in the queue a techhie pulled me out to test it quickly.

The combination of having had another router on my line without issue, and the fact that the router took extraordinarily long to sync, ensured I didn't have to go through the 'I'm not stupid' challenge with him, so I got returned to my place and then quickly assisted.

On setting up the router restarted right in the beginning, but that's it. It's almost surreal being online hour after hour without frequent disconnects - my old one had gotten so bad by the end that it would restart multiple times within an hour. That in spite of the .41 firmware that I updated to eventually.

This one's firmware version ends with .47. So at least they seem to have gotten closer to getting it right now. My one newly discovered issue that remains with the telkom 2200 is that I cannot set up guest SSID's - which I only started exploring today after establishing in spite of a stable router my Galaxy S4 still wouldn't stay on the wifi for longer than a minute.

Got that issue sorted out by going down in speed and setting the channel from '6' to 'Auto'. All smooth since then...

EXCEPT. *sigh* When I turn on the third computer connected via LAN things get unstable, with the LAN and the internet, though the router itself doesn't restart and the lights remain green.

That's my experience...

Mine's been mostly stable on the latest firmware, only thing I've changed that may help others is disabling uPNP, I'm only using one LAN port as I've got it plugged into my 3Com gigabit switch. The only times I've noticed wierdness is after torrents, I've read somewhere that the NAT table can become saturated as these routers don't cope well with a lot of connections. But otherwise it seems much better now for some reason.

I recently signed up for the Telkom 1mbps promo thing and got with it a Netgear DGN2200M v2 router/modem. The connection works fine but the router keeps resetting (which is very irritating when playing online). Shuts down. Red Power Light. DSL re sync. The whole works.

I've tried a firmware upgrade which also doesn't work because of the telkom branding.

I've used another router which does not do the same.

Should I return the modem to telkom or does anyone have any other advise

Thanx
Get rid of it.. I had to of them netgear routers from telkom.. change for pace or dlink.. Dlink works way better.. and its awesome once configured

Sadly mine's not on contract and is probably out of warranty (over a year old). Is the D-Link locked firmware wise? Or does it have to be used with Telkom™ firmware? Only asking in case they decide to let me swap it out for another of theirs.

Your warranty on the device with Telkom should be 2 years. At least, mine is...

Hmz, I'll check, what's the D-Link you have that you're happy with?

Have to admit, I'm not a D-Link fan, had a LOT of failures with their products.

Netgear router has 2 year warranty.. take it to telkom store and they must change.. Even if its not on contract it still carries a 2 year warranty.. I think only the new Pace gateway router has a 1 year warranty..

Dlink has been solid recently and the router supports both hard drive or 3G modem.. and i have updated the modem using the retail version firmware..(ver 1.70 ---something like that) and its working perfectly..

Streaming my movies and series to my TV.. awesome.. no stuttering..

Thanks, I've had so many open faults with Telkom lately, I'll doubt they'll so say no.

What's the model you have, just by the way? So I can get a 'known decent one' from them.

My DGN2200v2TELKOm has also been restarting and generally acting up.

I'd moved it from on top of a telephone table to underneath- a more enclosed space. WiFi performance dropped dramatically, and the thing dropped connection a few times a day.

Upon moving it back to a cooler spot, the WiFi performance seems better, and connection is better but still goes down almost daily.

How do I know it's on it's way out, before the thing actually dies on me??

I've actually been experiencing the same issue the the same modem for a few weeks now. Normally it would reboot about once a day which was fine but now it seems to be goinf offline and I have to shut the router off and on again. I'm only using 3G and have replaced the 3G dongles twice already.

I called Telkom. They recommend taking it into a shop for testing.

Not sure how successful that'll be...

Mine did the same and then also started losing all data/passwords etc every time it reset itself.
Had it fixed by Inc Conn but never used it again.
