Is it safe to disable WPA/WEP but restrict access via the MAC address?

I disable Wifi authentication because it doesn't play nice with my PS3, and only 3 MAC addresses are allowed to connect to through the router.

Is this OK from a security perspective?

if someone REALLY wants to access your router and in turn your pc, they will always find a way.
whats needed is a system that makes the average person not able to gain access.
mac filtering is pretty useful.
mac spoofing is still possible, but they would need to know the mac address's that have access and will need to know how to do so etc.

Im sure you are safe.

P.S. Im assuming you have tested that it only allows the 3 mac addresses through.

well i have tested a few other machines if that's what you mean. i don't think i could possibly test every single other MAC address out there :-P

SMAC allows you to spoof the MAC address of your adapter. If someone knew the allowed MAC addresses, they could easily access your network (this is easily done through promiscuous mode). A secure option without WPA/WEP would be to introduce an extra layer of security in the form of some other hardware.

So I'm relatively safe as long as my MAC addresses are secret right?
