Netogy Nova Feedback

Just updated to Android 14 on my Nova and the auto adjustment of the TV to match the frame rate of the content works great on Netflix BUT the DSTV Stream app puts the TV at 60HZ and all the content is in ultra smooth motion "handy cam" footage mode - not nice. Any tips?
Go to Settings, Device Preferences, Display and sound, Resolution - then change the option from whatever your TVs 'Automatic Resolution' is at 60Hz to the other option for 59.94Hz & see if that sorts out your 'motion smoothing' issue when using DSTV Stream...

Also try changing the options for "Match content dynamic range" & 'Match content frame rate' to ON as well...

Installed the update. Still on November security patch. Also struggled to pair the remote again. So far so good though still see if the box still reboot on its own.

Can someone advise which is the newer one nova pro 4k or nova 10 4k?

Need to replace my maverick as its audio is gone.

It was R1400 back in 2021.

I prefer android devices.

Went with the nova pro.

congratz - enjoy the device ..... the Nova will do a lot more than the Apple TV can because the Nova has USB and potentially will allow installation of software that will allow far more than the Apple TV will 😉

EDIT : just checking though - is the USB-C for power only OR fully functional in which case there is no other USB and it could be as restricted as the Apple TV for that purpose - still though will do more than the Apple TV in terms of the software potential IMHO

Only the older Nova 10 has 2 x USB 2.0 ports plus an Ethernet 10/100Mbps LAN port & a microSD card slot - these are ALL missing from the newer Nova Pro model...

Nova 10 connectivity options:

Nova 10 Pro connectivity options (ONLY wi-fi & NO LAN port) - it also ONLY has a HDMI 2.1 port & a USB-C power port:

was editing my post as you were replying - i saw that and it seems the USB-C is power only ..... in this instance it means that the Acer AiTV makes a bit more sense at an identical pricepoint but i do like the AI-SR upscaling functionality of the Nova - i wonder if that's a function of the new X5M chip or just a Nova feature?

EDIT - just did some checking - it seems like its a software function that the X5M chip allows for since the Mi Box 3rd gen has it also - i can activate it or deactivate it in the Mi Box .... so possibly the Acer could have it too and because the Acer has far many more connectivity ports the Acer should in theory should have an advantage over the others

I have both the Nova 10 & the Acer AiTV unit as well - the Acer DEFINITELY has the S905X5M chip with AI upscaling & optimisation capabilities...

so this is why out of the three newest boxes in the Android environment the one that makes the most sense is the Acer because it has the most onboard connectivity (and yes i did know that it uses he X5M chip so the speed and better graphics are a given there) - the Mi box lacks the ethernet port and SD card reader and only has one USB port, and the Nova Pro has no real external connectivity, which is a disadvantage for example if you want to add things like USB external DACS for pure music playback or large hard drives with external content to increase your library

BUT

in terms of speed and software functionality these three units should all be identical with minimal differences (if any at all) so you just have to pick the brand you are comfortable with ...... and while i have the Mi Box (because it became available first at the exact time that i could get a buyer for my old Mi Box Gen2) i would still say that the Acer is the one i would choose if i was making the purchase RIGHT NOW However IMHO nothing wrong with either of the others

and yes i did really consider the Apple TV because it has more storage and extra RAM but the factors that put me off the unit were Price, and especially no external connectivity at all and i want these units to be media players for local content as well instead of only internet streaming capable so for my purposes USB is a non negotiable - then the rest of my hesitation came from the software i would want to use for example there is now an implementation of USB Audio Player Pro for TV boxes and if you paid for the Phone version you can actually use the TV box version too and the other software that i generally use for hours everyday ie KODI can be sideloaded so that would not have been an obstacle but UAPP definitely is since you need a USB port if you want to connect a DAC to the box and use it as a high end music playback device for lossless and high resolution music (in theory it should work as well as a laptop would for this purpose as far as i currently know)

Yip - the lack of an external LAN port & SD card slot (and cantankerous USB ports when using a flash drive) was the reason I sold my 3-month old Xiaomi MiBox Gen2 in November 2023 & got the Netogy Nova 10 instead - and also the reason I upgraded to the Acer AiTV box at the end of last year to use with the JVC TV / SONY Home Theatre System in have in the lounge (with a 256GB SD card for offline content viewing) - I am now using the Nova 10 connected to a Philips mini projector & JVC 2.0 Soundbar in the bedroom for movies / TV series (with a 64GB SD card)... ;)

Does the Acer do lossless sound via remuxes on local storage? I know the MiBox 3 does, I'm pretty sure the Novas don't.

My Nova10 just decided to stop booting up. It is stuck at the splash screen with white and purple NOVA logo. Tried reset button and connecting to a different screen.
Just sent Netogy a support request, but thought I would also ask here if anybody has advice to unbrick this this paperweight?

remux HD audio.jpg

if someone has the Acer they can try either a ripped or downloaded remuxed file played back on Kodi after doing all the adjusted settings for passthrough and then played into an AVR and see if it allows for Dolby trueHD or DTS-HD (MA)

i would have tried but two reasons prevent me from doing so ie i have not got an Acer unit and secondly i don't currently have an AVR either so i would be wasting my time trying passthrough with my current setup

the older Nova's might not but the newest one might .... someone needs to check the documentation for that or even try it out but has anyone here got that new Nova Pro yet?

sorry to hear that - when my Nova 10 did that it was only two months old and at that time i returned it to Makro and used the store credit to rather get a Mibox 2nd gen (later sold that to get a 3rd gen when it launched)

is your Nova still under warranty or has the warranty expired? - you might need to send it in to Netogy for them to sort it out
