Netogy Nova Feedback

It's weird that you have to keep swapping
Why is it weird?

Apple can’t do AV1
Apple can’t do interactive
Apple can’t do HDR10+

If l want any of those - I can’t use Apple? Or are you saying that features change according my number of Apple products you own?

You keep bringing up the number of devices like its magically going to change something

The interesting thing is that people & situations are different

So? Do you have a 20mbps line?
We had floods the other day taking out the fibre. So we jumped to metered LTE & with older inefficient Apple TV codecs, it costs a fair amount as it uses more data than it should. AV1 uses about 30% less data, and therefore costs less
They've killed it or do you stream the same 3 shows over and over?
Kids watch shows over and over?

So they have almost 30 shows where kids choose which cereals or tools or something. Apple TV can't access that - and it's really just coincidence that they've discontinued after 7 years.
Fair enough but Netflix won't work with it anyway so moot point.
Prime does

You know here I say you build your use case around the products?

A perfect example is 'Apple make products only for people with 200Mbps fibre line, live in areas without floods, without kids wanting to watch shoes over, no twins so that Face ID works, LG OLED TVs only, don't want options etc'

Apple does aim to be for a different class.

Turns out miracles are real, this thing finally adjusts the TV to match the frame rate of the content.

I download YT documentaries at 240p (to save on LTE data) onto a 64GB Sandisk SD card to watch on my Netogy Nova 10 - which is plugged into a Philips mini data projector & I use a wall in my bedroom as the screen (85" viewable)...

The projector can be set to either 720p or 1080p via HDMI, and when playing these 240p mp4 videos, I have noticed that - since the recent upgrade to Android 14 - that there is a noticeable reduction in pixelation & artefacts at this low resolution - it's almost akin to the 'AI upscaling' I have on my Acer Google TV streaming box in the lounge...

I am VERY impressed at this visible improvement in picture quality... ;)

I updated to 14.

I'm not finding the Nova when casting. Only app that can cast from my phone is Youtube.

Chrome browser apps and other apps can't find the Nova, including Google Home.

download a different casting app for the Nova - there should a few in the app store

If you have configured the Nova for casting then it should just work. I can cast Spotify on my phone.

Some apps like Youtube and Netflix (and Spotify?) can apparently use other connection methods, whereas most apps can only use chromecast.

(if the AI is correct)

Can you cast from other apps (a video in Chrome browser, Disney Plus etc.)?

my Mibox Gen 3 uses a casting app called Miracast .... and my Skyworth TV uses an app called Castplay TV .....i'm sure there could be versions of either one in the play store that could work with your version of Android (both my devices are GoogleTV based but GoogleTV is just an evolved version of Android so im also sure that apps are probably interchangeable)

Web Video Caster works very well. I have the paid app already on my phone and it suggested its TV version (that thanks to your suggestion I found in the menus).

Most apps I use is based on websites so I'm sorted.

The cast quality is also better than Chrome browser.

Yes, in Chrome on my PC I was able to cast BBC and Channel 4.

Just updated to Android 14 on my Nova and the auto adjustment of the TV to match the frame rate of the content works great on Netflix BUT the DSTV Stream app puts the TV at 60HZ and all the content is in ultra smooth motion "handy cam" footage mode - not nice. Any tips?
