100m? I wouldn't go cheap on that length. You're playing in the upper limits of cat5 and playing with cheap cable will cost you.

What do you suggest I get?
I'm not too technically inclined. Thought I'll just run the cable on top of the roof- thought any cable will do.
Can the cable be exposed on the roof or does it need to go in trunking.

We have a neighbor - The Networking Warehouse - in Midrand. We bought a long cable from them about a year ago for this kind of purpose. It runs from our main store to the workshop and it goes through the roof and is exposed to the elements, although it runs along the building crease, and we have had no issues. Perhaps give them a buzz and ask them which cable would be best.

Cable Link in Randburg. They will cut to 100m, as typical reel is 300m. It must be Cat5e, not Cat5. I suggest conduit on the roof.
