Issues that have been noted in Stellenbosch:

Constant Disconnections
Only able to access the cell c website
Connecting but no data throughput
Slow D/L and U/L speeds

-->This is due to Cell C is having congestion problems. The congestion is on the radio side.
-->Areas affected are stellenbosch no other areas have been mentioned by cell c.
-->New site are going to have to be found and built. This is currently already underway

@Cell.C-guru, the Papegaaiberg in Stellenbosch is well suited for a new site. I can't understand why Cell C didn't go for this site in the first place. MTN and Vodacom are already up there. You guys should just learn to share towers ;)

Mormon much? :D

One of Cell-C's advanced data support people told me that only the promotional SIMs are provisioned for the 3G network.

Is there an estimation for how long this will take?

I have not been given any time frame for it. I will see if i can source an estimated time

EDIT (28-03-11): There is still no date for a resolution as a new site is still being sourced

Hi Cell.C-Guru,

I'm very glad that Cell C is acknowledging the fact that there is an issue.
I have sent 5 mails on this issue but am yet to receive a reply:
I work as a software developer in Stellenbosch and replaced my 4Mb ADSL line with the 21mb/s Cell C offering.
January and February i had fantastic connectivity: averages of 5Mb/s down and sub 80ms ping times.
When the students returned at the end of Feb it all went pear shaped - i now disconnect intermittently and the network is atrociously slow.
So much so that i have had to crawl back to Telkom to get an ADSL line - even though i've already made my R 3000 investment with Cell-C.
It is impossible for me to maintain a proper RDP session to my servers or a VPN connection to our Gauteng offices.

To date the support has been non existent and the handling of the congestion issue has been scandalous.
The least they could have done is reply on one of my mails acknowledging that:
- There is a congestion problem
- They are working on the problem

Thanks for the update, though.

I know this message is quite old, but I've recently learnt that Vodacom is blocking CellC from sharing towers where they have influence/control... hence it's first come first serve...

The CellC 4Gs offering is not a business grade internet access product! When VPN'ing, SSH, FTP, RDP, etc. protocols are needed ADSL is best... I've tried CellC and VC's option, but also landed up with unshaped ADSL! CellC's product seems to be pretty heavily throttled and shaped, giving major priority to HTTP??

Stuck on EDGE again..University campus area. Any updates? Cell C marketed their HSPA+ network on campus the other day, I don't think it's a good thing to get even more people on to this heavily strained network. Though I guess more money is always better/

Take note:
Could everyone that is having an issue please pm me the tower id, rssi, area and rough time of disconnections/slow speeds. Going to try compile a full list of everyone having this issue in CT and submit it to cell c. I will be doing this till this sunday so should be enough time for everyone to pm.

I think this is going to be a long list

Tried uploading a small file to filesonic just now. Got no more than 3kbit/sec :wtf:
Had to switch to 384k ADSL backup. At 64kbit/sec it felt like whoosh :(

Same thing in my area. Thinking of changing my backup from ADSL to Vodacom. And the way things are going, soon Cell C will become my backup.
