Just a quick question... Are modems allowed to be network locked?

I know cellphones can't so why would this modem be locked. How would one go by unlocking it? Its a branded vodaphone usb modem and friend wants to put a 8ta Sim in it.

Thanks

I am taking a guess that friend is Brian, it was suggested to him to contact "Ginggs" via PM or open forum to assist with this problem as he is an expert of note in these matters

Nope not Brian... But I will contact ginggs when I'm by the pc

The modems are not locked, but the Vodafone dashboard dont like sims from other networks. If you use MDMA app from ginggs it should work fine.

The problem is he can't use a different dash. The modem is plugged straight into his router.

You don't say what modem it is...

Most Vodafone Huawei modems are just standard model re-branded with a K model number! So, it's quite easy to upgrade the on-board dash to Mobile Partner.

However, the dashboard isn't used if it's plugged into a router...

Give the model number of the device or we're just guessing here...

Devices cannot be network Locked

Hi ,

Devices cannot be network Locked under ICASA regulations.

Vodacom ( Vodafone ) Seem to have found a way around this by ensuring their software ( Dashboard ) rejects all other networks.

So technically the device is not network locked if you are tech savvy.

Use GINGGS mmda software it should work fine.

Vodacom chooses to keep the Blind attached to their network.

NO other operator in SA does that.

Guys please choose wisely when purchasing a modem. Vodacom modems cannot be resold to a friend or family if they are not technically literate about computers.

BoycoTT Vodacom modems and watch them change their strategy.
As long as you buy Vodacom modems they will continue their practices.

All other modems you just stick a different operator sim card in and connect.

Easy as ABC123.

BoycoTT Update - We are winning the war against Vodacom however we have 24 months to go.
Results are at 60% positive at the moment so keep the faith we will achieve 100% results.

Mass migration of Subscribers to other networks is going very well.

Mpesa has failed. Another product is excelling.
Webbox is failing beautifully = Another product is also excelling.
Wireless Broadband Data - Go with the most value - 5-7 Full Value Options out there.
Call Rates - Go with the most Value during Peak Time - Massive new Products being Launched soon by competitors.
Alot of work is being done behind the scenes. So yeah we doing very well at the moment.

To freedom fighters:
Just note that they supply technical specification for their modems, while other network providers do not. As long I can read, as long I know how to use in other networks, I don't care. Sorry, I can't fight for proudly southafricans who are unable to read.

Just some feedback... Turns out after he actually READ the manual, the router only supports the vodafone/vodacom network. Since then he has replaced the modem and all is working perfectly
