Hi,
I recently purchased a blackberry from Game stores through the Vodacom network(prepaid). I want to put in an mtn simcard now, and use there prepaid blackberry service. Is the phone locked onto Vodacom only, and can I lose my guarantee etc?

Thanks

The last time i asked a sales rep in a store(forgot which SP flavour) i was told they are not allowed to network lock the phones.

Your warrantee should be safe permitting you dont remove any of the panels that are screwed in place.

Yes, in RSA you are not allowed to network lock a phone. When I got my bold, mtn said I would void my guarentee if I put another sim card in it. I don't know though, because my previous phone broke and they fixed it and I had all kinds of sims in there

Yes network locking is no longer allowed (anti-competitive or something)

true, you supposedly lose your warranty if you put a different network's sim in there. Some sales consultants are so confused by the "different sim" issue that they often explain it as "if you put in a sim other than the one you got when you bought the phone". I do know of quite a few people though who have used different network sims in their phones without having warranty problems when it came to repairs.
