Network Management Software

Ook what type of management are you looking at? Basic monitoring or more indepth such as remote installs; etc etc

Hyena Enterprise.
AD & exchange integrated if you like.

There's a cracked version floating around torrent heaven (I've heard)

busy trialing cisco prime lms on a poc at the moment. Its pretty bad ass.

Cisco LMS is pretty good
Zenworks is also pretty good linux based and opensource
Nagios is pretty good but hard to configure
Opsview is pretty awesome and one time install is based on nagios.
Have heard good reports on zabbix too

OpenNMS
Enterprise Grade: It was designed from “day one” to monitor tens of thousands to ultimately unlimited devices with a single instance. It brings the power, scalability and flexibility that enterprises and carriers demand.

Application Platform: While OpenNMS is useful “out of the box,”it is designed to be highly customizable to create an unique and integrated management solution.

Open Source: OpenNMS is 100% Free and Open Source software, with no license fees, software subscriptions or special “enterprise” versions.

Solarwinds, can be quite expensive though

Worth every cent though.
I am yet to find any monitoring tool that strikes such a good balance between efficiency and ease of use. Yes, you need pretty deep pockets, but if you can pull it off you'll never look back.

It is that time of the year, when I relook at what i'm using and see if there is anything better.

Currently using: Zabbix

Needs:

Must monitor OSX, Windows and Linux
Must deploy easily via agent
Must be able to do some form of network discovery
Must be able to be configured relatively easily (Nagios takes too long to get up and running for my liking)
Must have reporting that can be exported for management

BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY: Ease of use, mustn't take weeks to setup and function properly.

Anyone got any updates on what to trial?

Previously I've looked at:

OpenNMS
Nagios
Icinga (Nagios frontends)
Thrunk (Nagios frontends)
Centreon (Nagios frontends)
Check_MK (Nagios frontends)
OMDistro (runs Nagios and much of the above in one install)
Observium
Zabbix

Thanks,

QFT

Pricing is pretty decent at the low end considering the value, the problem I find is licensing for larger networks as its element based.
