Hi all,

I need someone (who is in this line) to please give me a ± price for a 25m network point, from the switches to the PC in question.

We normally use SectionFive here in CPT but they quoted us R450 to do this and I don't wanna be a total ass but that is WAY to much IMO.

Oh, when I 'complained' about the price, I was told R400 is the lowest they can go but I still think this price is WAY too much.

Am I being a chop ?
Is that too much ?

Can someone give me a ± estimate on what this should cost?

Agreed, but "We" want someone outside to do it, yes we'll pay, but not prices.

If I can do it for R120, then I'd say, R250 is MAX to pay for it, but then to get told R450/R400 ?

That's like over kill!

Then, we also buy PC's from them (thinking that they are priced well) then maybe we are being ripped off from SectionFive as well - and that is uncalled for!

do you need the wire to be pulled above the ceiling or some other strange place...that will push up the price.

Yes, but we have those lift up boards as ceilings, so, it should be to hard.

So, another R200 for that? Snot Man! :(

R350-R500 per point is the going rate.. esp if you want it to look neat and professional.

Just remeber they have to come to your premises. A standard rate for a call out is R180 and then theres still time worked. R450 to put in 25m cable in a roof and possibly glue it down isnt bad. Cable is about R5 a meter so R125 for cable, R20 for 2 ends and boots. So R305 for a callout and there time. Its not really that bad. I would charge about the same. Its the time you paying for not the parts when it comes to network installations.

agreed, especially if the the installation is difficult, ie drilling through walls climbing up in the roof etc.

Dude, you're getting a good deal, take it. The going rate is R400 per point in the same floor, same building. Trust me man, that's the price, get it done ;)

Cal CIS (Core Infrastructure Services). They're very good and I think they charge around R350 depending on the Cat5e run.

Would one actually change their service provider for 50 bucks?

R350.00 min and thats up to 50m of cable(Krone), 3m of trunking (floor to cieling ), Cat5e wallbox (Krone). But I don't have big overheads. Also the price comes down if you doing more points. Then holes through the floor and through cavity walls are charged extra.

You can get just about everything you need form Cape Cables in Mailtand. We've bought trunking from them, and I see they stock almost every type of network cable and connection under the sun.

You can do this yourself, but you may find that the time and effort and frustration gets too much and it's better to call the experts in.

We had MS networks come in last year and install 5 points for us in some very difficult area's, and they did a great job. No ways could I have done that myself.
