I'm looking for Software that can monitor a network that works on static IP addresses with Unmanaged switches running through a backbone. The Network does not run any significant servers and is used mainly for file sharing and communication.

What I'm looking for (if it exists) is software that can tell me where (which IP) is causing trouble. In cases of network lag / unstableness , out of ordinary packet loss , DoS and so on.

I know chances are that I'd need to set up a DHCP server or something so that everthing is routed through a central server , but I'd like to avoid that if possible.

I'm not a network expert ,though I have my fair share of experience - I'm administrating this network , so in cases of missused lingo , pardon my Inexperience

Thanks!

DHCP does not route all data through a central server, it mearly dishes out IP adresses and other settings. Take a look at spiceworks, I know that it does have some network bandwidth scanning features but I do not know enough about that feature. Nice thing is that the software is FREE !!!

i dont particularly like to do sales calls on the forum but ...
