Good day all maybe you people can explain this to me cos it has confused me big time....

I am running a network here at work and got a problem. I can have access to net and read others files and folders but they cant with me. I can ping the computer but thats about it...

1) I put new network card in and still no luck.
2) switched firewall off and no luck
3) updated drivers no luck
4) tried static IP no luck
5) ran networking wizzard no luck
6) cant even get into my own pc on the network when you try viewing yourself on network and there nothing even if i go run then \\192.168.1.8

Please this is urgent

The problem lies with the software config on your PC. Start by enabling the guest account.;)

I can also use remote desktop it is just the files that I cannot access.. this is seriously something weird tried with fresh copy of windows aswell got a dual boot

Switch off simple file sharing then from another PC type
\\MyComputerNameHere\C$
into the addr bar and hit enter.

In any folder, Tools>FolderOptions>View (down at the bottom)

Have you made sure that your computer is running both the Server and Computer Browser services - in other words are both of them started? Look for those in Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.

Have you checked your network card properties and made sure that the Client for Microsoft Networks service as well as the File and Printer sharing for Microsoft Networks are add AND ticked?

Try again connecting without any firewall enabled.

Have you checked the Event Viewer logs for error information relating to networking?

For now, try connecting to \\192.168.1.8 instead of using a computer name.

Check the above on all computers on the network.

Is the systems on the same "workgroup"?

checked those and remember now where my error lies.... when I installed windows there was a file missing. thought of that when checked under computer manegment for the shares there

and there is a file missing during windows installation

Windows installation bails if files are missing. Better organize yourself a complete version of windows.;)

Did u install AutoPatcher on your PC, I think theres an option there to block network shares etc. If you did, open AutoPatcher, go to Regsitry tweaks and check there for the option an un-tick it.
