Network setup [Active Directory, Group Policy, E-mail] Training

No one uses?

Maybe in SA since the real brains where smart enough to leave this country.

To my understanding and reading, Linux is quite fcking massive and In Demand just very little people really knows how to use it effectively others just chose to spend their time better by using the MS ecosystem instead and rightfully so that's what I did.

I'm a linux admin for an ISP. I use Linux daily to do a variety of functions:

Load balancing
Containers
Virtualization
Orchestration
DB hosting
Web hosting
Reverse Proxy
NFS file shares
SAMBA shares
Mail

I use the best tool for the job. If I wanted a good firewall I wouldn't pick Linux, i'd pick FreeBSD. Same for an active directory type solution - i'd pick MS as its the best tool for the job.

Reading your threads you've still got a ton to learn around security, dns, mail and sys administration in general (and it shows, but keep learning - just perhaps try and be a bit more modest when doing so, or you're going to piss a lot of people off). You don't always use one tool, you'll soon learn that. You can't use a hammer for everything, sometimes you need to check the toolbox and use what's best.

Point taken.

I apologize for being a bit of a Penis tonight. I am working on it. I promise.

OP grow up - we giving you good advice , take it or leave it.In time you will realize

Case in point.

Got 4 sites thrusted upin me, for which I need to provide email and internet access.

1. I could've used M$, but there was no budget for that. So, Linux it was to be.
2.I literally throwed myself into the deep end by going with Linux here. Decided on CleaOS for email and VPN services, and Smoothwall for interner/firewall/content filtering.
3. Along the way I had to learn static routing, email maintenance on Linux (which is vastly different than on Exchange) and a lot of other things besides. But it was a good learning experience, and one that I will do again.

I can agree on the AD side of things - for that M$ is the best, ad the guys said - usd more than one tool, don't just stick to a hammer.

Smoothwall looks good, I am currently using it on the home network to test it out, I like it.

Another option is PFSense (FreeBSD based). In my opinion its more mature / offers far more than Smoothwall does. I also don't think that Linux is great as a firewall. BSD is far more mature in this regard.

That being said I have used Smoothwall and it does work :D

I think that is where the confusion came in, in this thread see to my untrained knowledge BSD, debian, ubuntu, RHEL, Fedora, Centos it's all linux to me.

FreeBSD looks like the perfect fit for the stuff I need, I just mistakenly labeled it Linux

With Office 365 and Hosted Exchange, a budget for proper email solutions should not be a problem anymore. For the more expensive server and database stuff, recommend a SPLA solution.

MS is the best way to do it. We also moved from Linux to MS even though we have some of the best Linux techies around.
