kk guys need some help, I need to do a job, take network + telephone cable from one building to the other, distance is 100m straight, but I will have to take all kinds of corners so. mine will be much more than 100m.

I was thinking about getting 200m each + extra switch to split the network cable at 90m to have no data loss.

Any extra info or help welcome!.

O and we dont want wireless because we have it and it sucks!

Thanks

if you cant get a decent wirelss connection between 100m.. then your probably better off mowing my lawn!

Even cheap wireless routers can do 200meter (open field), If its from a building on the 2nd story, it won't go thru any houses or equipment that will interfere... If by building you mean a house.. Then u might need two oraaitish wireless network cards and a wireless router.

Hey, FxpForce

The plan you've got to set it up should work, hope it does :)

If you have the budget go for 100MB laser. I've seen it in action before and it's pretty awesome. Failing that super G wireless is pretty stable if setup correctly and 100m is not very far.

You'd nee some decent kit though, Cisco Aironet and Breezenet are pretty good options with 1 omni and 1 directional antenna.

The problem is other "professional guys" installed a wireless setup and the signal just sucks and drops dead allot. The problem is we work with accounting software and corrupt data is a serious problem!

2 x wrt54g's with 2 x 12dbi yagis = great bridge for 2 wired networks thats stable even a kilometer apart!

glad you said "professional" I so often hear about these "professionals"
gives wireless a bad name. only "professionals" can F@#$ Up an 80m wireless link.

but your plan sounds good. I love wireless but have UTP cable where i can. Faster and more stable. cable = stable :p
other option get someone to setup your wireless properly.

accounting software happen to be Pastel?

Decent aerials and finding the suitable channel make a huge difference.

I know a guy who does the cellular aerials for MTN and Vodacom, if you I could get his number for you, maybe he can help.

We have a 2MB wireless link from Century City to the top of signal hill and the only time it goes down is when it's very cloudy or raining. He set it up for us.

Well FxpForce, with fibre optic you will definetly reach the distance you require, but you need specialist equipment to do the splicing. You will also need fibre to utp converters. Why do you not try STP cat 5e cable (much cheaper). You will be able to reach about a 150m pushing to 170m before data loss. Done similar installation last year in Swaziland going out of the building; underground up into a factory roof and down into a control room total of about 130m.
