Network/Systems Administrator Software

Is that similar to Team Viewer or VNC? What's it cost locally?
$99 via their online store, but if you want multiple licences it can get expensive.

I would say better than teamviewer as I can see all the servers in the left hand pane and setup pre-connections to them. It helps when you need to connect to multiple machines and you can access them at the click of a button.

I am BIIIIIG fan of Nagios.

http://www.nagios.org/

This puppy saved me many a nightmare and I can simply not go without it, even If I have to run it on a VM on some desktop. Monitors and alerts you of almost anything. Some services are pain to set up but well worth it.

The features alone is a good indication why http://www.nagios.org/about/features/

Yea i also rely alot on my Nagios! Has saved me alot of time with fault finding :) Still learning the program, but have picked quite alot up... Been using it for a year now

What do you need to get Nagios setup?

Mostly a Linux PC. It can even be a older PC, but you want something that is going to be up all the time.

Or if you want to start playing, may I suggest starting with a VMware Virtual PC

Edit: forgot to mention loads of time, and reading. Its not just point and click Windows application. But once its running will save you hours on fault finding and monitoring.

Hell my Nagois even tells me when the fax machines paper run low, well not me but I can see that even if I am halfway across the globe from my office.

It requires significant patience to setup, but the hours it will save you once that setup is done speaks for itself!

I see that :D I'm not all too familiar with Linux commands & the Ubuntu installation guide looks foreign to me!

Wait till you get to SNMP traps and remote execution.... now thats where the fun starts. For example you can set Nagios to start a print server in a Office if it detected that the Primary server is unreachable, this action can be set as a secondary escalation in case you do not respond to the 1st alarm in a set time period.

In essance it can almost replace you if you want to take it that far. In fact I was so nuts to do it once and almost got let go for doing nothing but surfing the web all day(The boss found this out because of the report my Nagios scheduled by pulling data from Squid+Dansgaurdian. Learned my lesson then... will just make my life easier, not replace me ;)
