networking assistance

hi bros please could you advise me as to how i can network 2 computers, 1 has win xp pro sp2 and the other is win 98
would appreciate any help

well, firstly get a pc to pc netwrok cable, then setup an IP address, you do this buy going into the network options, and double clicking the Internet Protocol, then type in random numbers into the first THREE empty spaces where it say's IP address , these must be the same on both computers(eg:198.248.239.1 on the first pc and 198.248.239.2 on the second) , then in the last space the numbers must be different, then the Subnet mask must be:255.255.255.0

and if all goes well, you should be networking
