I need help, please! Before I curl over and die, slowly...

I'm trying to get my WiFi back up at home after it started giving me hastles a while back. But it just doesn't budge this time. Yes, i am a unqualified noob so bare with me please.

The two main issues are:
1) the pc doesnt properly connect to the network and the troubleshooter says something is wrong with MY IP. Putting it on auto doesnt help.
2) my android phone cannot connect to the network, it keeps saying "Obtaining network IP" even if i give the phone a static IP.

Also, if you have the access point on static IP, the default address, within what range should you put you pc wireless IP so they can properly connect? Judging by the fact that neither the pc nor the phone can properly connect it would seem the issue lies with the access point. But not even resetting it helps...

PLEASE someone I need help badly...

Kind regards

As things are now, i have internet connection with my pc over the access point, even though it says "limited connectivity" to the WIFI. But the phone still doesnt connect, "Obtaining IP address from network" and then goes from "remembered" to "dissabled"

Sounds like you are having DHCP server and/or IP addressing issues and/or configuration problems. :-)

Do you have both a wireless access point (WAP) as well as an ADSL modem? Or is it a single device? If you have 2 devices, you need to make sure that DHCP is only enabled on the router, and not the access point. Also, you need to check that the connection between your WAP and modem is working.

Also, the fact that you reset your WAP to default settings will probably cause more problems. Give us more info about your setup, all your networking devices, and devices you want to connect to the internet, and then we can help.

What brand and model WiFi AP do you have?

Some WiFi AP's are terrible, and then it is most likely not even your fault that it is not working properly!

The access point is a Linksys WAP54G and I use an Iburst modem connected to the AP with a lan cable. The AP software connects to the AP about half the time, the latest version from the manufacturer website doesn't work at all. And I cant connect to the AP through my browser for reasons unknown.

As of this moment the setup works for the PC, it no longer says Limited connectivity, but neither my IPOD or the phone can connect, it just keeps loading and obtaining an address...

Unfortunately, I know very little about DHCP and in the software form the AP cd there are no settings for it, all I know is tinkering with TPC/IP settings :/

I would suggest that you connect a LAN cable to the WAP54G and then try to access its web page. Please note that you won't be able to access its web page if your PC was unable to get an IP address from the WAP54G's DHCP server.
Your PC's IP address has to be in the same range as that of the WiFi AP to be able to access its web page. Often you won't be able to access the web page when you're on WiFi either, which is why I would suggest that you connect to it with a LAN cable.

Did you perhaps flash it with an incorrect firmware version? There are a few different WAP54G hardware versions: 1.0 - 3.1, and you have to select the correct one when you download the firmware.

If you're just experiencing WiFi connectivity issues, then you should also look into changing the WiFi Channel - anything between 1 - 13. If you've got an Android phone, then download the WiFi Analyzer application and check for open channels/frequencies and then use that on your WiFi AP.

There is a setup wizard that you can download, which is like 50MB.

Thanks for the advice! I appreciate it allot...
Now all the devices can connect but for some reason the internet isnt sharing yet, even though it's supposed to :/ I'll check in later to report.

EDIT: it was the firewall. Crap. How the heck do i get the firewall to allow the internet connection being shared?

Does your iBurst modem run a DHCP server? or do you perhaps know what its IP address is?

You can always set your WiFi AP to use 'Automatic Configuration - DHCP' under the Network Setup, but that would only work if the iBurst modem is running a DHCP server.

If it still does not work after the WiFi AP got an IP address from the iBurst modem, then you should change the DHCP server on the WiFi AP to hand out IP addresses on a different range.
eg. if the iBurst modem is on 192.168.1.1, and the WAP54G gets an IP address of 192.168.1.2, then you should let the WAP54G assign IP addresses in the 192.168.2.2-192.168.2.254 range, UNLESS it is actually bridging the network
In which case you'll want to setup the WAP54G to assign IP addresses in the 192.168.1.* range, with the default gateway being 192.168.1.1

Unfortunately the manual is rather limited, so I can't help much more
