networking problem

I hope I understood this right:

I reckon its the crimping. If the crimping is borderline then the make of the NIC/socket can make a difference because the tolerances are different. That would also explain why the laptop works but the desktops don't. Had some weird issues with this in the past.

Also, do the desktops just not see the other PCs or does it say net cable disconnected?
 
I doubt it, why does the laptop work then, if the crimping is not 100%? Very strange one indeed ...
 
I've had an issue like this before as well, and it turned out to be a damaged cable. The connection would work perfectly on one machine, and be intermittant or dead on another.

Even my cable tester showed that the cable was working and all wiring correct, but in the end, replacing the cable resolved the issue, this after I'd re-crimped both ends.

Some NICs seem to handle bad connections better than others.
 
Could it be the cable wiring ? maybe its a crossover cable some nics auto switch others dont but then the switch should. wierd.
