New 1TB hdd

Seagate, they never die, and have a 3 year guarantee (5 year for some modals)

Lost my trust in Seagate after I had a couple fail. Im using Samsung or Hitachi at the moment.

All HDDs are the same and failure is down to bad luck. Get what ever's cheapest. Which tends to usually be Samsung. And the benefit is they run cooler and faster.

Brand new hitachi 1TB drive is broke. My friend bought it in Lydenburg somewhere and they want my friend to drive there to exchange it. Still has the guarantee. Sigh. Lasted 3 days and dead now. Its just makes like a tick sound each second.

The again I bought a 1TB Western Digital drive a couple of years ago and its still going strong. So yes its just some drives that fail. Not a Brand that fails.

Cheapest I could see was R536 and its a 7200rpm and sata 3. They have it in stock so shipping as soon as payment is made. Ohh and shipping would be free too.

Hitatchi click of death. Google it, quite common :p mine did the same

Seagate click of death, WD click of death, Samsung click of death... Google them and I'm sure there will be to s of reports for each.

:D

Google have built up some experience with HDDs from all the ones they use. The result of their research is published at <http://labs.google.com/papers/disk_failures.html>. They found that in a professionally run data centre high temperatures and utilization levels have very little effect on reliability.

They did however find that drive models and manufacturers were highly correlated with failure. They did not name and shame the manufacturers due to the proprietary nature of the information.

Im using two Hitachi 1TBs at the mo, but my favorite hard drive is Western Digital.

I supply a lot of drives to clients, and I've seem 'em all come back.... there is no, "this drive is better than that drive", but from my personal experience, I've had more Seagate fail on me, than Samsungs - but, then again, I install more Seagates than Samsungs, however, all my personal use computers, run Sammy's, about 10 in total, and so far, they are running cool and stable - the oldest one, 3 years now, still running good, smart is also still in the far-black. Seagate's, not so much, I fear that Seagate might have been slipping in it's production processes.

Also, I've never had a Samsung fail on me within the first year, I have had Seagates fail on me within the first 6 months!

Bottom line, get Samsung, excellent value for money. I purchased my first SATA 6 Seagate, so I'll see how they perform.

If you have the bucks, get two sammy's of the same size, and model, mirror them, and then you're [relatively] safe.

hi guys,

I need to get a 1TB hdd asap. Which brand is the best and why?

Western Digital
Seagate
Samsung
Hitachi

Any one of those is as good as another... I have used hundreds of them and the failure rate is equal between all of them.
Just get whatever is cheapest at the moment.
