UPDATE:

I just got home and did a speed test. I was getting 384 speeds

I've now just reset my router again, and the speed is up to a decent 2055mbits/sec. Not amazing, but better.

I am using the standard Marconi Hasbani Telkom POTS 4-port router (Ethernet). I have noticed that I do seem to rack in a few CRC errors (ie, since my previous reset at 1pm today I got 26 errors). I'm not in any rush to phone telkom support, because when I went through the 192-384 upgrade I had a similar problem for the first couple of days of the month (though a hellavu lot more CRC errors then than now), so I am just gonna wait till the start of next week and see how things are. If they're the same I will give the beast a call.

Holding Thumbs.

Wow I can't believe some people are complaining so bitterly. Yes there are intermittent problems but so there should be on the very first day of providing such a service. People should have a little patience and maybe start to complain after a week. Sheesh..... And the 4mbits applies to both local and international. I have been getting 400 + kb/sec from international. Have you guys not tried to download international?

Stop making this out as if I am so ungrateful. I am not complaining about the upgrade, FOR THE LAST TIME, EVERYONE:

I AM NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT THE FOUR MEGABIT UPGRADE FROM TELKOM

I am complaining because since the upgrade my 1mb line has been more like a 192 line. That is what I am complaining about, and what i have a right to complain about considering I AM PAYING FOR A 1MB LINE.

So stop pretending to be so flabbergasted at my complaints, I have a right to complain about getting 192k speeds when paying for a 1mb line.

I am a Microsoft Beta Tester, downloading Vista RC1, download speeds 100kB/sec (ie 1MB speeds), while downloading did a Telkom speed test, speed 516kB/sec. I have done various other downloads from international sites all downsloads are at 1MB speeds, some less but no anywhere near the 4MB speeds shown in the Telkom speed test

I`ve noticed my noise margin is very low 3-5 db .reset my router and it goes up to 17db but as i browse it goes down , at 13 db now .browsing international becomes almost impossible the lower it goes .line attenuation fairly stable 26-27.

LETS MAKE SOME NOISE !!!!

Mmmm ok... I tested yesterday and it seems it can go fast (local and international) but at specific times like BTech says and a bit unstable. Sometimes I can't even authenticate.

I don't mind a few problems now. In the LONG RUN we will all benefit from the trial in that there will be many things upgraded. Look at the big picture ;)

I don`t think buying a new router is going to solve your problem .might as well say buy a new house nearer the exchange to get a better signal .I have a netgear dg834 and it has been working fine on 1mb for more than 10mnths .Now it is very unstable , since `upgrade` .Last week Iwas getting 512kb speeds and it took TK 3 days to sort out the problem .This week getting 56k speeds on a 4mb line ,go figure . Report the problem get a ref no and pester them .Its what you pay for ,they are not doing you a favour ,the problem wont go away by being patient ,so how can you be grateful for getting a worse service .But I suppose that is why TK can get away with murder ,rip us off & we just grin & take it up the (*) & say I should have bought a better quality lube then it won`t hurt so much . AH Ya:eek:

Speaking of SNR and whatnot, is anyone else getting CRC errors on their 4096/384 line?

I seem to get a few every couple of hours.

I'm getting a truckload (in the thousands). I have no idea what that means though and I'm getting nice fast downloads so I'm not going to lose any sleep - at least until someone explains it to me. :)

I know that it means something is wrong with your line. But then again the exact same thing as you are explaining happened to me during the 192-384 upgrade (i was being upgraded), and after about a week my router randomly reset, and they were gone. Let's hope the same happens in this case.

I have had crc errors on my line since I first got ADSL, started with 384 and then upgrade to 1MBs when the price came down. I have contacted Telkom numerous times to ask about the crc errors, they just said that if my speed are within the desired limits, there is nothing to worry about. Although I am sure that without the crc errors the line would be faster. My telephone line has no static. I also get more errors on the upload than on the download according to the router. Maybe getting a better router would help, using the Telkom 4 port router

I have a DG834GT with V1.01.28 firmware ... solid as a rock.

Also the DG834GT is used on Telstra ADSL2+ networks in Aussie so 4Mbps is nothing for it.
