I am sorry to hear that Sir, you are currently on level 2 shaping .. we still have a level 3 for our highest users pushing 30-40GB. The network must have been busy last night.

Thanks for the mail, as per Aldo your account is still experiencing throttling and i can see that the throttle only kicked in on the 24th of this month the throttle will be lifted at the end of the month. I have also seen that at the end of the month this account will be canceled.

Kindly note that the accounts are not shaped and are congested and we cannot change anything to make it better at this point.

Kindly note that we cannot do anything to change the the congestion on the network. We did have a problem with our system incorrectly shaping account ,although that has been sorted out and we are releasing full speeds through to your account.

Full speeds my ass. I am consistently getting 12-13kbs. I think they are actively trying to shed uncapped users because they got in over their heads.

Good Grief... well if they shaping 30-40GB users then i am also switching!!! Screw that...

Browsing and d/l'ing with MWEB as we speak anyway!

EL OH EL!! He calls me the noob...

Please please tell me where you get the series or episodes from?? I would love to know cause I would also be happy if I could get series for 100Kilobytes an episode ;)What has watching them next week got to do with how much you download today???? LOL! he calls me the noob....ag shame....

MKV format stuff usually averages about 60mb per episode - great quality. Try www.warez-bb.org and look for a thread called sweet16mb - episodes at 16mb's for some shows in fairly good quality.

You are currently not being throttled. Kindly visit www.speedtest.net and perform a speedtest. Forward us the link to the results of the test. Also perform a trace route to www.saix.net and www.is.co.za and forward us the results of the trace route.

240Kbs-320Kbs is the acceptable range for a 384Kbs line. Note, due to networking requirements, you will never be able to obtain 384Kbs on a 384Kbs line. (The same holds true for 512Kbs that get 450Kbs and 4Mbs that get 3.8Mbs.) Note that the speed of an uncapped account will be a bit lower than capped accounts, due to the higher contention ratio.

It is based on the capability and load on the network. Unfortunately with uncapped your speeds will be slower than capped, due to the higher contention ratio and shaping that is done on the service.

Hmm.. Thought there was no shaping.

I actually wondered if they were doing (additional) shaping on their uncapped service. Now we know. Thanks for doing some investigation.

Yeah no great service is one thing... but no service speed wise is something else. Then you won't need a client services dept coz there will be no customers.

Earlier went over 20GB on a 384k line, and my RS went down to a third of the speed.
Early on a Sunday morning, that must be throttling, not shaping.

If I can't get more than 20GB at 384 will also be cancelling. Hate this.

I had to revert to an old SAIX account.

When the whole uncapped service from Afrihost was publicised I thought by myself. "Hell, this might just get interesting." Ha, I was so wrong. I try to still believe in the possibility of a first world South Africa, but companies like Afrihost and the like make it almost impossible for us to call ourselves even a developing company.

First off their client relationship management is one of the worst I have ever seen. My brother and I both had capped accounts for a while and if it wasn't me who had a problem, my brother had one. I had to call them constantly to fix their payments on my account. They would deduct to much etc etc. Then my brother goes 5gig over his CAPPED account. And their response to this is that they only get logs from IS every hour and apply capping then. Fine, I understand that, but to download or use 5 GB in an hour on a 4mb line is just ridiculous. We could only muster around 1.6GB in an hour.

Anyway, we now have a 384k line with their uncapped service. It worked fine for a while and since the letter of their T&C change I have been throttled like hell. If I download, I only download from around midnight up to about 7 am in the morning. Now, my account is throttled all day. I don't even use the internet during the day!!! In April 2010 I got about 21GB usage, May 2010 around 44GB usage and June 2010 up to now around 31.687GB. I can't see that I am one of the 7% and I really think that in the wee hours of the morning a lot more than 7% of the users aren't even using their accounts. So what is going on? Let me explain what I think. I think a lot of people changed from their capped accounts to uncapped and in reality they haven't really made a lot of new clients with the uncapped offering. I think they want to force those of us who went from uncapped to capped again. Especially those of us who don't use the full capabilities of the internet. I think they are ridiculous and would NEVER suggest someone use them again!

I am currently looking for a new uncapped provider that at least have some sense of business. And Gian, please stop emailing me, I want the people on the floor to talk to me, not the fake "I am sitting here writing an email to you all because I am such an awesome person" emails. Seriously, do Afrihost think South Africans are idiots? Looks like it.

I can write pages and pages and pull their business model out into little bits and show all their idiocy in doing business but I would not like to bore anyone and surely don't have the time to waste on such small minded companies.

Here is my logs of my uncapped and capped service speedtest that I did 1 minute apart.

Ciao Afrihost.

Still on MWEB... Still flying? But i cancelled it last month :( Should've been AH i cancelled... *sad panda*

Ive downloaded 90 gig's this month and getting really nice speeds still. Strange that.

Not at all. I only use news server for downloads (astraweb). I dont know if it makes a difference that some days I dont download nothing at all, and mostly I download at night. After posting that amount last night, I downloaded a DVD. 4.9gig in 5 hours and 2 minutes, not the fastest in the world, but nothing bad either. For all I care though it could have taken 10 hours.
I'm on the 4Mb uncapped.
