New Afrihost TCs

OMG, I just switched over to Mweb and am downloading my Steam games at full-speed. At peak time, 2pm in the Afternoon.

I didnt even know that was possible.

Yes it definitely is ;)

The only reason I used to stick with Afrihost was that the account was relatively unshaped at predictable times of the day. My http was good but never awesome and I was fine with that seeing that the lesser shaping made up for it. Now that they have shaped me to almost dialup I have no more reason to sit with the average HTTP performance anymore.

Does steam run through HTTP?

I've used 80 gb's this month.

Reckon they are pre-emtively throttling me incase I go over 100?

I have no idea, but according to their wiki page:

"Steam transfers content over its own protocol, as opposed to the more common web protocols, such as HTTP and FTP. It downloads from a set of dedicated content servers spread out across the world, connecting to several at once to try to ensure a fast and stable connection."

Then MWEB must have prioritised it which is good judgement of them, good to hear a happy customer.

Now that I think about it, even with all the people cancelling, Afrihost is still going to get countless more victims signing up with their glamorous "Pure internet joy" advertising. Oh well...

I will say it again - I was an AH original fanboi! Been with them for over a year.
They have no clue what they are doing, seriously.
Many of their support staff can not, or could not answer basic questions with regard to service and Terms of Use because basically they don't know what they are doing.
Its a clown show.
I moved 2 clients today to MWEB, I have been with mweb for a week. Guess what - its better!
Quit trying to save a sinking ship.

im not exactly angry with afrihost. i just wish they could give us some sort of number, and not something like "7%"

sitting with dial-up speeds after doing 28gigs on a 384 line isn't cool.

is 28gigs putting me in the top 7% of 384 users? i highely doubt this

AH should simply cancel their "pure internet joy" offering and go back to selling capped bandwidth by the gig.

Their CEO should grow a pair and quit pu$$y-footing around. They are now simply coming across as a bunch of headless chickens, with no sense of how to react to a changing market.

Aye, that pretty much sums it up. +1 :)

Well I am even more pissed off today.

a few days a ago I noticed that speeds dropped from 40KB/s to 20KB/s (384k).
Luckily I still have a telkom account so been using that for the last few days.
Tried the AH account again to see it going at a wopping 13KB/s and I havn't touched the account since it started its 20KB/s carp.'

F you afrihost time for me to go elsewhere to.

so like if 20gb-30gb is there second tier of throttling and im getting ~10kb/s on a 384 line,

what is their third tier like?

wish they would be more communicative like they were when they released R29/gb

I moved to MWEB to try them out since July 1st after cancelling Afrihost at end June. My current usage is below (at 81GB so far). I have also NOT been affected by Seacom problem and have had full download speeds throughout the month.
