Received my Asus N75SF multimedia Laptop.. can just say its super awesome.. with an SSD. 36 Seconds to fully functional desktop with all running apps finished loading.

he imported it probably.

No, got it from Sonic Informed (parent company of the Cafe Viva's) montague gardens.. but with exchange rates that went up from R6.90 to over R8 since august.. it cost now R13 799.

My gf is looking for a laptop, she's willing to spend R7 600. I was looking at getting her the Asus N53SV. Can anyone recommend that laptop?

I was going to go for that one first.. also very good.. but then decided to get the best i can afford before the rates went up.. wont be a bad choice if she's not a hard core gamer... ;)

Funny, the N53SV was also my first choice but chose not to buy because of Sandybridge recall while back and the release by AMD's 5770m which is better than 540m from N53. The only laptop with 5770m (in SA) I've seen are HPs, played around with it at Incredible but found the build quality too plastic so now eyeing on the N73.

Nah my gf is not a gamer at all. She doesnt need a gaming laptop. She wants a laptop that is going to last her a very long time, that's why she's willing to spend so much. The Asus N53SV is the best laptop iv found for her.

I bought my dad an HP G62 and put a Kingston 96GB V100+ SSD in it. Total cost Laptop + SSD, R4.7K.

It only has a i3 CPU and 15" HD LED monitor but the SSD turned a slow and unimpressive laptop into a laptop that kicks mayor ass. Boot time is also around 30 seconds from pressing the power button to being in the desktop with no load cursor showing. Everything opens immediately, laptops are IO bound, not CPU bound. Even games could run with those CPUs, it's the GPU that is the mayor factor in games.

Laptop also has lower power usage now (I went around 2 hours the other day and still had 80% charge left) and it runs much cooler since it doesn't have a hard-drive with moving parts.

If you want a PC for gaming, then I would spend that kind of money. Otherwise buy a laptop that looks good, has the screen you want and slap an SSD in it.

Laptops that come with SSDs in them are so overpriced it's ridiculous.
