New Balance running shoes

New balance have a good name in running shoes. They are very good...esp the trail shoes.. I would not recommend the casual shoe range as these are made cheaply and do break.
 
use a pair of NB's for messing around in, gave me massive blisters for anything longer than 3kms... so i bought myself a pair of nikes... can't for the life of me remember the name, starts with "v" and now no problems!

that's why i am splitting these sauconys -- fat wide feet and a fat ass, then my next will be nb

At one time or another all brands except Nike have been el-cheapo. I remember Puma was a cheapo and el-crapo brand back in the '80s in Europe. Addidas was also el-cheapo but became a hit in the US with their retro tennis shoe which heralded the Preppie look. NB was a hot brand in the US in 2001. Anyway they are alll made in China now and probably at the same factories so it doesn't matter anymore as quality has gone to the dogs.

Not sure where you live, Randburg Runner (think thats the name) in Dunkeld Shopping Centre (just by Hyde Park) are fantastic. I buy all my running shoes from them. The guys there know their stuff, and will find the right shoe for you for the shape of your feet, and the running you do etc. Best thing is, if after a week you dont like the shoe and its not working for you, you bring the pair back and they exchange them for a new pair of some other brand. Now that is service and that is how confident these guys are in what shoe they recommend for you!

Whilst Nike and others were still using leather and their shoes lasted a fairly long time, NB started out with cheap synthetic. NB doesn't fit well and certainly doesn't last. As an aspiring brand maybe, but the local price doesn't justify the quality.
 
I'm more of a Nike guy myself, but I have heard that the NB's are pretty good especially in terms of value for money
 
anybody remember north star ? those things lasted longer than any nike i ever owned !
 
Update: I went to Randburg Runner, as suggested by Crazyfig and got excellent service. The shop assistant examines your feet, checks what kind of running/exercise you do and then make recommendations.

I settled on Asics. Will try them out on the road tomorrow :)
 
Asics are good shoes, I just never really liked the look of them.

Any idea if the Randburg Runner is still operating? I have decided to take up running and would like to invest in a good pair of running shoes. Highly confused about what to get.
