My last Pc a 478 1.7 ghz has blown up processor , mother board and PSU all KaPuT!

Now Being a poor kid and all whats the best pc to buy under 3k something upgradable , I have the spares from the wreckage , a 128mb fx5000 , 2 x 512 mb ddr400 ram , 1 x 215 mb ddr 400 ram, 120 gig hardrive , dvd writer .

So if the Pc comes with a small hardrive or no dvd writer it wont matter as I could put this in .

Pleeeease Help , Gaming Is my life.

3k is to low as you need new cpu, mobo, psu, ram and gpu not to mention you should get a sata hdd and a sata dvd burner (mobos mainly only have 1 ide connection nowadays and a hdd on the same ide as a burner do not work lekker)

I looking to buy a complete pc , even secondhand Not just the parts as a newb like me will have probs putting it together.

Maybe try Prophecy ? You can still use those parts and get what you need for under 3 grand ..... helped a friend a while ago with similar parts and he managed on R2500.

You should be able to find the following from most local computer resellers. It seems to be the entry level these days....

Intel Celeron D 420 1.6 Ghz Processor
Foxconn Intel Motherboard 945GC
256 - 512 Mb RAM
80 - 160Gb SATA HDD
32x SATA DVD Writer

Those go for between R1800 to R2500... you can save some money by using some of your old parts.

The flyers I am looking at are from Matrix Computers (R1800), Inter Computers (R2499 with windows), MR Computers... etc.

ah lol we tend to stay away from those systems over here so i cannot really advise you then. Find something at incredible corruption, makro etc though you will not be doing much gaming on them. (Check the classifieds here, sometimes people have decent yesteryear systems up for grabs for cheap if you haggle a bit :p )

p.s. managed to get to 2.7k without graphic card, hdd and burner (cpu, mobo, psu and ram were covered and this would be able to game unlike the a/m systems))

where abouts are you?

Could probably sort you out with a entry level dual core system.

Just worked this out quickly.

Proline OEM Case & 350 PSU
Intel E2160 Dual Core 1.8Ghz
MSI P4M900 MB
2GB DDR 667Mhz
Seagate 80GB SATA
LG DVD-RW SATA

R3000

Then just get a decent gfx card when you get the cash, sorted :)

Not bad!!!!! Bargain dude!

I must say second hand goods are something you can look at as well. Especially for regulars on forums like systemshock, myadsl, pcformat, prophecy, etc. You do save going that route.

That said ... there is nothing like having a new pc that you built from scratch.

So you choose.

BTW Brawler's proposition looks very good. There are plenty cheap gfx cards being sold on the forums.

Here is another alternative.

Intel pentium E2160
Asus P5N-MX
2 x Corsair Valuselect 1Gb ddr2-667 CL5
Western Digital 80GB SATA2
ASUS vento A8 Tower Black - 300W PSU
LG SATA 20x DVD-RW

This or Brawlers system is probably best for your budget.
What you must also do is get a 3.5" IDE enclosure and use your old hard drive as external.

Also R3000, but some different components.

Regards

Itai
(P.s. I'm not trying to compete with Brawler, his system is also good value for money, just trying to help the oak out)

I'm busy studying Financial Management ... give me a break :P ... I got a test in an hour :( ... but like I said, I'm not competing, I'm offering options for the guy ... I was in his position last year.

Yea! E2160 powa!! I Would toss most of that stuff, FX5200 and RAM
Mostly all the same build's :) Here's my suggestion!

From Sybaritic.co.za

E2160 - R670
Gigabyte 610i - R752.00
JetRam DDR2-800 2 x 1GB - R369.00
Gigabyte GZ PPC1B w/ 300Watt PSU
About R2.2k

Would save up for a GPU instead of sitting with something like a 8600GT :)

See Tyron, tons of options ... although if you look at the Sybaritic option, I'd also suggest getting a 80GB SATA2 hard drive, the guys on this forum might not agree, but I've seen substantial data transfer speed differences, even from copying between partitions. And I would suggest a new SATA LG DVD-RW, but thats my opinion. Besides ... you getting a new pc ... why you want those clunky old IDE Cables ;)

Chow people, off to my exam, wish me luck :)

I fully Agree I would rather take less HDD Space at a better speed than more at a slower speed, From 100Mb/s to 3GB/s is a HUGE jump :)

Good luck BTW! :D
