so true. we must be careful what we put ourselves into.
i have a business and I'm also working. last year i started a plumbing business. we basically got work for the first 2 months.
Like Acid said, i didn't borrow any money for the business.
My mistake was buying a bakkie for the business, i should have pursued to hire for at least 3 months there see what happens, because after the first 4 months work started to slow down.
lucky for me i calculated that if all doesn't go well then i could pay the bakkie without stressing.
business needs patients and a good strategy, you don't need money to start a business just good planning. i would run away from business that are labour and capital intensive...
business is not easy, it can be stressful at times and at times you can succeed, and when you do it will be sweet...
you need to plan for failure and not for success as success will take care of it's self...
don't expose yourself to too much credit, and avoid unnecessary expenses and if you succeed do not expand too quickly...

My dad (when he bought our business 13 years ago) said he didn't expect anything to happen to the business for at least 2 years.
He ran it so well (he even knows how many cents it costs him to butter a single slice of bread) that every year he's made a 10-20% increase per month from the previous year.
Problem is unreliable filthy SCUM employees stealing from him, drained him with about R20-30k revenue a month for the past 2 years.
They don't realize that he was on the verge of bankrupcy just because of them. Now my mom and dad rather works with the money alone while kitchen staff stay kitchen staff not touching anything. It's a bit more hard work for them (pushing 60) but at least they're back making a profit now.

we were on a insurance panel, but we joined at a time when the were too many of us and the insurance lost a couple of clients and so they had to make the panel smaller...
you always need to have a plan B.... just in case **** happens
