New Cape Town ASOD Speed Camera plans

On the N1 stretch between Laingsburg and Beaufort West it's actually incredibly difficult to average over 120km/h unless you're driving like a bat out of hell. I've measured it myself on my average speed meter in my car. You always end up getting stuck behind a truck or something that brings your average speed way down.
 
Cape Town introduced it first average speed over distance (ASOD) camera system in 2012, which resulted in a reduction in speeding on the two reads where the systems were active.

Spell checker giving trouble again?

I like this system. Much more representative of what speed a motorist drives at and allows for the occasional burst of speed .....

It is blindly relying on spell checkers and then relying on predictive text setups that is the problem ....

No one seems to take the trouble anymore of proof reading their stuff .....

Yeah I like that it basically compensates for overtaking and you won't get ass raped for a momentary burst and passing a conventional camera.

Ok, but where is the stats on the reduction of accidents along these roads?

This makes no sense. The only reason I ever speed is to make better time. Having to stop defeats that entirely.
 
My only issue with this is that on very long stretches - e.g. south of Beaufort West, where you have may have accelerated to overtake a few times, but are generally travelling at the speed limit, you have no real way of knowing if you're over or under the average, unless you recorded the time at the first camera and know the exact distance to the next one.
 
They already covered the n2 just after sir lowry's at the bridge up to houwhoek for a couple years now, but they should put one at the turn of from the r300 on to the n2 and measure it to the golf course/mall in somerset west. Now that is a stretch where people drive like 160.
