New capitec masterpass promo

Half the time I try to use my Capitec card it doesn't work (including Masterpass) if it's not a POS transaction. The branch's keep saying everything is set up correctly and customer support says go to a branch. I've been wanting to switch to them for a while now but they just don't seem stable enough yet.

So you got the SMS, and have done the securecode activation process online?

Yep. I went into the branch to get it all done and they confirmed to me that it was activated twice, but then when I tried to use it, it didn't work. I also needed access to my bank account when away from my phone, but with an Internet connection on the computer so they gave me a OTP fob that you press to generate a number to log in on their online banking. The problem is they do not support using that AND cellphone banking at the same time. That just feels like a very badly designed system.

Another issue is that I often travel overseas and their support response 9/10 times is, "We cannot do that for you - please go into a branch.". This is a BIG problem when I'm overseas and need access to my account. I have the OTP fob now, but say I still had cellphone banking, if my phone was lost/damage/stolen I would have no access to my bank account as I couldn't just download and install their app on a new phone - I would need to go into a branch to activate it.

I don't want to bash them too much. They're offering a good service and with their interest rates and low fees are really reducing banking costs for a lot of people which I think is good. It also creates good competition which drives down fees at other banks. They just need to work on some things still. It all just feels very "beta" to me, and hence why it's still just my spare account.

I have to confirm, you went in, they sent you an SMS, and have sat down and did the securecode activation process online?

This was about a year ago. I can't remember the exact details. The guy who helped me took my phone and did everything on the app, and if there was an SMS to receive then he would have read it and set it up. Afterwards he gave my phone back and said everything was set up. I then needed to buy something online about a month later, and it didn't work. I went back into the branch and this time they didn't take my phone, but looked up my account details on the system, did some clicking and said everything is sorted, I should try again. Then when I tried again it still didn't work, and I didn't bother going back a third time.

Not anymore for a few years now. I upgraded to a new phone in June and didn't need to go into a branch. https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/threads/great-news-for-capitec-banking-app-users.775618/

You skipped the most important part. Online activation comprises of 2 parts.

Step 1 is the part they have to do (click, click, activate yadada yada on their systems). Then an SMS is generated and normally lands within 9 hours. The SMS reads:
Capitec: Please keep your new MasterCard SecureCode for Card: 6666 safe: SUPERSECURECODE. Info 0860102043

Then you must wait 24 hours and proceed to step 2.

Step 2 is the part you have to do (they cannot do it). Head to this link and enroll your card:
https://secure7.es.arcot.com/vpas/capitec_mc/enroll/index.jsp?locale=en_GB&bankid=9137

Step 3: ???

Step 4: PROFIT!!!!

Ah well two of their consultants didn't know this so maybe they need to invest in better training. Still the whole procedure feels very awkward and the fact that I can either have only the key FOB or mobile banking which has to be activated in a branch means it's still not mature enough to be my main account. I need ease of use especially when out of the country.

Tested this now, Capitec masterpass app - split a R300 bill up and made 5 transactions, R100 Woolies voucher arrived directly after the last transaction.

On the first payment there was a note that if I paid over R100 I'd save R50, paid R110 and only paid R60, I'm not sure if that was a app promo or vendor promo.

I was wondering why I got a Woolworths voucher!

Did the 5 purchases and I have not recieved anything. How soon after my 5th purchase over the amount of R30 between the promo period will I get my Woolworths voucher ?Thank you
