YOU NOW NO LONGER HAVE TO GO INTO THE BRANCH IF YOU RESET YOUR PHONE OR SWITCH TO A NEW PHONE TO CONTINUE USING THE CAPITEC APP!

I had to reset my phone the other night after Meizu sent out a firmware update, but it buggered by google play services and store, so did a factory reset and all was working well on the new firmware.......but of course had to download the Capitec app again and thought I would go do it this weekend. SURPRIZE! I thought I would give it a shot, put in my username, it said I am using this app on a new phone and my cell number will be confirmed with a SMS and that I wont be able to use the app installed on the old phone. Clicked ok and 3 seconds later my cell number validated and app is working

WELL DONE CAPITEC!

I think I have had to go into the branch to reset my app due to switching phones and factory resets like 5 times already. So happy about this

How long have Capitec had an app? The FNB app requires you do re-activate via online banking which to me seems more secure than just allowing access as Capitec have done.

They have had a app now for a wile. Previously you had to go into a branch for it to be reset if you changed your phone or did a reset. Now you put in your username, it validates your cell number with a SMS. Then you have to enter your pin .... which only you know ... and if you have given that out in a phishing attack then you deserve to have your Capitec account compromised.

Awesome! I actually gave up with the app because I'm a serial flasher. Will go download it now

Wouldn't help if you have keylogger malware on your phone. Do they give you a history of logins/devices?

Again, they cant use your pin (if they somehow found it) without your phone being verified first by the SMS confirmation.

Have the service providers blocked that sim swap scam yet? If they have another phone and know your pin. Then they could redirect the SMS to that phone couldn't they?

This is great news! One thing that has always frustrated me.

I've never been able to get the app working on Android. Every time I start it, it says "Remote banking cannot be activated. Visit any branch to replace your app." That's even after making sure I've got the latest update from the Play store. Any ideas? I refuse to go into a branch just to get a stupid app to work.

I had this problem a few times I just switched to the token but I might switch back. I wish they would allow you to have both.

Dont know about the other operators, but Vodacom have put a measure in place where if a sim swop is done on your line, you get immediate notification and the sim swop gets pended on the system for 2 hours automatically. After exactly 2 hours, the sim swop then goes through the back end and the old sim deleted and new one activated. This is to give the user enough time to take corrective action.

Oh just do it. It takes like 5 minutes. After that it is done. With the new app you should not have to do it again if you switch phones or do a factory reset.

What is the username? Account number? I actually moved over to the token system so don't think I can use that and the app

You specify your username when you activate Internet/mobile banking at a branch.

Ockie, google brought me here. Do you know if this is still the case with the app? I'm seeing current 2018 reviews for Capitec Remote Banking app stating having to go in to a branch etc.

I had to go into a branch last month after reloading after a reset.
