Great news for Capitec banking app users !!!!

YOU NOW NO LONGER HAVE TO GO INTO THE BRANCH IF YOU RESET YOUR PHONE OR SWITCH TO A NEW PHONE TO CONTINUE USING THE CAPITEC APP!

I had to reset my phone the other night after Meizu sent out a firmware update, but it buggered by google play services and store, so did a factory reset and all was working well on the new firmware.......but of course had to download the Capitec app again and thought I would go do it this weekend. SURPRIZE! I thought I would give it a shot, put in my username, it said I am using this app on a new phone and my cell number will be confirmed with a SMS and that I wont be able to use the app installed on the old phone. Clicked ok and 3 seconds later my cell number validated and app is working

WELL DONE CAPITEC!

I think I have had to go into the branch to reset my app due to switching phones and factory resets like 5 times already. So happy about this

Is this still correct and valid? I'm about to full reset my phone and don't want to have to go to branch :-/

I went in a few days ago and yeah you need to visit a branch according to the helpful customer services lady. Was quick and easy.

So a 50/50 gamble

You're the guinea pig! Put this thing to bed.

I was sent an activation code at the desk and then they reset pin and made me sign stuff etc. But unless there was a security breach or some other catastrophe, it does seem strange that they'd go from convenient to inconvenient.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ok so I don't have to go into the bank. It just asked for my banking password and I'm in.

Bank person asked me if I had a new handset. Do you think this had something to do with it or you would it not matter I wonder?

Ok, that's good news then.

+1 for Capitec Bank

It seems to be only with new phone that you actually need to go in. I'm guessing Capitec are clever enough to store a "mac address" or whatever phones use; something specific to that phone you are using.

One snag with Capitec:

Was paying for a restaurant bill with a Capitec debit card and for some reason. There was a 1067 error. I had no idea what this meant, but the excitable owner said my card "bounced". The available balance shown on my phone was 8 times the bill.

Called Capitec to find out what the problem is. Lady ignores my question about a 1067 error and proceeds to ask me security questions. After 4 questions she says I have failed and cuts the call

Offered to make an immediate EFT payment. Owner is not happy about this, so between myself and my 3 friends, we scraped together enough cash to cover the bill. Owner asks me not to visit his restaurant again

Visited the branch the next day. All my "security questions" are correct. Turns out a 1067 error is something to do with API calls, whatever that means. Complaint via email to Capitec remains unanswered

Why I always carry two cards from different banks. Pretty easy to do since VMCC is fee free. Also tell the owner to get Zapper...

The way that owner acted you shouldn't visit again, I mean I've had cards not go through and most places are like, it could be card machine, lets phone the bank, let's make a plan etc...

Please let me know the name of this restaurant so that I can avoid it, the owner sounds like an arsehole!

First try the card again, then ask if the customer has another card. Since you say that there were 3 other people at the table, he could have suggested that you go to an atm and come back and pay.
