Hey guys...

Needing advice and opinions right now especially as I'm so angry I'm not thinking quite so clearly.

I purchased a new vehicle on the 2nd January 2013. When negotiating the deal for the vehicle I told the salesman that I did not want a Motorite Maintenance Plan but the actual VW Maintenance plan. Reason being for convenience sake and, because I was informed by the other dealerships I had been to before finally purchasing my vehicle that the Motorite plan would not cover everything as the VW plan would.

So 4 months down the line I discover that the Maintenance plan I was sold is actually an Avis one. Now my issue is this. I wanted, asked and paid for a certain Maintenance Plan but was given a different one without my knowledge. When signing the documents to purchase my vehicle the finance dept member did not inform me that it is indeed an Avis plan I was sold. On the document itself it does not say it's an Avis plan but is called an Optimum Maintenance Plan. Me not being clued up about the motoring industry would not know that this is no a VW plan.

So my question is, do I leave it as is and accept the situation I am in right now. Having to go through the whole damn rigmarole of obtaining authorization when ever my vehicle needs services or repairs

Or can I insist that the dealership rectify this and have my maintenance plan changed to the VW one as initially requested.

I had quite the fallout with the salesman today but have calmed down a bit to be able to speak professionally to them tomorrow pending my decision on this darn situation.

Your guys help is appreciated especiaaly the guys in the Vehicle Sales Industry

It was a brand new vehicle?

Does it have a maintenance plan as an option? If so, then you go back to the dealer and the dealer principal and demand that they rectify the issue, or the deal will get cancelled as it was NOT what was requested.

As far as I can recall my VW plan is with Avis.
I know for a fact that GM Products are also through Avis.

I think thats Normal?

@ToxicBunny - Yes it was an option which was paid for or added to the total cost I should say.

@Mypro-D - It's not normal. There are as far as I know from today onwards 3 different packages. One being VW itself. Two being Motorite and Three being Avis as I have found out today.

Difference being that with VW itself you have no issues. You take your vehicle and the do what must be done.
With Motorite or Avis, when taking your vehicle to a VW service centre, they have to call Avis/Motprite for authorisation before doing any work.

So Mypro-D have you taken your vehicle in for service or any repairs? What was the procedure? Did you have to arrange the authorization or did the VW centre do that.

Anyone else that has a maintenance plan with either Avis or Motorite that can shed some light as to if you have had any hiccups using this maintenance plan when taking your vehicle to VW Service Centre

The vw plan is called the automotion plan. Have you had our first service yet? If not I think you can still get the vw plan.

How much was the other plan? Tell them to refund you for the plan and get the automotion plan. What dealer was this by the way?

Ok rodga....

I have not had the first service yet as my vehicle only has about 6500k's on now. On my documentation the price displayed is 10 000 odd ex vat which when calculated amounts to 11 000 odd which was the price of the 60000 k maintenance plan before the price increase.

So I wanted to just find out as I have now considerably calmed since yesterday, am I being prejudiced with having an Avis maintenance plan and not the VW plan itself...

your car is 'new' or second hand? ie did you have it 0km? your title says one thing but the description says another?

either way its gonna be tough as when you haved signed documents stating you do agree. i would say go and have a nice chat with them first see what they say. they might just give you what you need.

dont want to bring up that dreaded acronym, but have a look at and see what is says.

Never had any issues with it in the three years my Corsa Essentia was covered under it. Did three services and it did not cost me a cent. So I can't see what the problem is here?

Well the issue is that he got and paid for something he did not want.
Id get them to rectify the issue by cancelling the avis one and getting the automotion plan and they should cover the difference if any.
They should really come to the table and sort this out, these types of things give car dealers a bad name imo and if they want to keep you as a customer the very least they can do is give you what you wanted and thought (or let you believe) you were paying for.

OK, that is a valid reason, but do you foresee any situation where the Avis backed one will not pay for services? To be honest I did not even know my GMSA plan was backed by them. Thorp just serviced my car each time and did not charge me anything.

Well what they cover should be outlined in the agreement. It should be pretty similiar tho

@biff.... Title says new vehicle and my description states that I purchased a new vehicle. Had like 54 kilos on.

Anyway guys I was upset because I was under the impression that I was cover by the VW maintenance as that is what I specified when purchasing my vehicle.

As mentioned. I have calmed down now and am thinking a bit clearer today. So my main concern is this, (doing research here), besides for the servicing of my vehicle, what happens when something breaks which the maintenance is supposed to cover but Avis won't because their policy is not similar to that of VW. Then there's the issue of authorization that needs to be obtained before any work is done on my vehicle. If that responsibility is not mine then I won't mind keeping this Avis plan.

It does cover for 6 years or 60000k's. Won't keep my vehicle that long but it'a a plua I guess. Down side is that if I sell my vehicle then the plan is not transferable to the new owner....

Anyway, advice as to if it is a good plan to stay with or not....

I don't have the energy to fight with them as I have told the manager that actually from day 1 the service or people skills of the salesman was crappy to say the least. I just wanna be done with this dealership and NEVER see them again...

Ouch.
The avis plan seems to lack the cover the VW Automotion Plan would have offered.

Volkswagen AutoMotion Plans
With a choice between AutoMotion Service Plans and AutoMotion Maintenance Plans, you can rely on the fact that after driving off in your new car; it will be taken care of for years to come. And, with the assurance that only quality Volkswagen genuine parts will be fitted during the lifetime of the plan, true peace of mind is yours to enjoy.

You’ll be paying for your future servicing needs at today’s prices.
You’ll enjoy the rewards of a higher resale value due to a full Volkswagen servicing history
All Volkswagen AutoMotion Plans are fully transferable to the next owner.
You can rest assured knowing that your Volkswagen will be taken care of by the Volkswagen servicing experts.

The Volkswagen AutoMotion Service Plan does more than cover scheduled vehicle servicing — it helps you maintain a competitive resale value. The optional AutoMotion Service Plan, with a distance limit of up to 180,000km, is available for the whole Volkswagen vehicle range.

The Maintenance Plan not only covers scheduled servicing costs, but also wear and tear items such as wiper blades or brake discs that are traditionally not covered by service plans. What's more, the AutoMotion Maintenance Plan also covers mechanical and electrical faults should they occur within the duration of the plan.

A 5-year/90,000 km AutoMotion Service Plan is included as standard on Golf 6, Jetta 6, GTI, Golf R, Touran and Scirocco. The AutoMotion Maintenance Plan is included as a standard 5-year/60,000km plan on, Beetle, Tiguan, Kombi and Caravelle. A 5-year/100,000km premium AutoMotion Maintenance Plan is included as standard on Passat, Volkswagen CC, Touareg and Eos. This is in addition to the 3-year/120,000km manufacturer warranty that is standard on all Volkswagens.

An Optional Service or Maintenance Automotion Plan can be purchased for vehicles that do not come standard with an Automotion Plan such as the Polo Vivo, Polo and Caddy. The minimum optional plan that can be purchased is a 5 year / 60 000km plan. The maximum plan that can be purchased is a 5 year / 180 000km plan.

Vehicles that come standard with a 5 year/90 000 km Automotion Plan can be upgraded to a minimum 5 year / 90 000km maintenance plan up to a 5 year / 180 000km maintenance plan.

Extension's to the AutoMotion Service Plans and AutoMotion Maintenance Plans are available in intervals of 30,000km, to a maximum of 180,000km or five years and can only be purchased for an active Automotion plan. if the vehicle has an active Maintenance Plan, the owner has the choice of purchasing either a service or maintenance plan extension. If however the vehicle has an active Service Plan, the owner can only purchase Service Plan extensions. The 5-year/100 000 km maintenance plan has an initial kilometre extension of 20 000 km after which the kilometre intervals are 30 000 km until the 180 000km or five year maximum is reached.

I would escalate it to the DP or VWSA. If you have any written correspondance that would help your case. Post up on the VWSA facebook page.

@wikk3d88... Thanx for that bud.

I know what the VW maintenance plan covers or at least what they say they cover. You mention that Avis would not cover what VW would cover. Can you let me know what it is that the Avis won't cover please...

Im going on you mentioning 6year/60000km, which obviously differs from the VW 5year/6000km or 5 year 90000km.

Just a note, I hate it when salesman try to punt these aftermarket warranties on new or demo cars. One ****** tried to convince me that we needed to purchase a warranty to cover a secondhand Touareg despite the fact the Touareg had the balance of its automotion plan.

Ok no this is no problem. I paid for a 5 year/60 000km VW maintenance plan but got the AVIS Maintenance plan which for the amount I paid into the dealers account got me the 6 year/60 000km one from AVIS of course.

I also read the wording incorrect and it seems that the Maintenance plan is transferable to the new owner of THIS vehicle. The maintenance plan can not be transferred to a new vehicle you might purchase whilst still in the plan period.
