New car

Auris TRD R255k brand new from Durban South Toyota

Or Civic Type R secondhand

With that budget definitely a new civic.

I got this sms the other day:

Honda Bedfordview + all new Civic launch on 17 May, 6pm. Visit www.hondabedfordview.co.za or call 0820708090 for more info.

Hey Messugga,

The Alfa Giulietta is a lovely car. ....and for R250k there are some awesome deals on Carfind and Autotrader.

There are like 2 or 3 owners of it on this forum including me.

Have a read through the above thread.

Best thing about the car...us early adopters have taken the knocks and you can pick one up for cheap. I would recommend the 1.4MA (125kw). Go test drive one and come and tell me it doesnt impress you...

- Service Interval 30 000 Km
- Service Period 72 Months
- Service Plan 90 000 Km
- Warranty 150 000 Km
- Warranty Period 60 Months

As the above shows, you have nothing to worry about. When I took mine in to sort out a rattle, they gave me a little Fiat 500 to drive around...BMW would have told me to make my own plan...

There's very little that compares to the feeling of owning a car that no one else has.

That new Civic is also apparently Honda's apology for the last one. If I hadn't just bought my Ballade 2 months ago it's what I'd be looking at now.

The sedan or hatch?

Well they certainly haven't issued any apologies with their pricing.

Lol - on Carbuyer the reviewer says that the top spec civic with a few extras is the same price as the Audi A6 in the UK!

Right, so I went to look at some cars and testdrive a couple. The BMW 1-series is crap. It's very pretty to look at but as I was aware, there's a space issue. I knew about it but had no idea how bad it was. With my hand on my head, it brushes against the ceiling, thanks to my 6'1" frame. This also makes the rear seats little more than decoration. It's just very cramped in general. The sales staff also failed to impress and I practically had to beg for assistance. Not wasting my time with that brand.

Honda currently has a very good deal on the Accord. The dealership in visited received 30 or so 2010 units with 20k-30k on the clock. It's the 2l executive automatic package, with heated leather electric seats and all the other bells and whistles, for R209k. Very good value for money I think. It's kinda boring though.

I then went to take the Gullieta for a drive and I'm pretty in love with the 125kW model. Performance is great as is its fuel economy for the bit I drove it. It's a bit pricey new but there are some good deals available on the second hand market. I will have to think about resale value and all that, but technically it satisfies the specs I had in that it's reliable due to the great warranty and whatnot. Service costs aren't terrible either. Around 3.8k for a major service but the service interval is only every 30k km, so it's actually similar to most other cars in that segment.

Audi A1 and Golf TSI I'm giving a miss. I've read nothing but concerns over the longterm reliability of the engine and that's quite a dealbreaker. I'll do further research on the Alfa as I suspect it may suffer from similar sentiments, but that is a separate issue.

Ask anyone here how Honda and Alfa compare on reliability :P

Also you said you'd be putting on a lot of KM. Luxury and reliability are the things you should be looking at.

Let me guess.. Heart says Alfa and the brain says Accord. Both beautiful cars. I'd go with my heart if money wasn't an issue :D

Pretty much exactly this. The Accord makes sense and it's a pretty damn good deal. That Alfa badge is calling my name, and it's only R20-R30k more, however! It's a very difficult decision to make.

Go with the Alfa, somebody else has already taken the knock!

How about spare parts? The Alfa will cost you a lot more long term.
