I'm in the mood for a new car...

Is the new Mazda3 Astina worth it? Test drove the 2.0L individual, but the engine was kinda sluggish... I'm assuming the Astina isn't any different? Didn't get to test it on a highway though, only through the suburbs.

Drove the new Veloster Turbo too... love the auto box, but it's kinda fugly from behind and it's overpriced considering what you get. It does get to 140 pretty fast though...:love:

No French cars...

Would love a WRX but they're kinda above my price range for now.

Not too sold on VW either...since the whole family drives them...:D

So I don't have many options :erm:

I am sort of over the slowness of the i30 1.6... so am looking for something that is fun to drive while not consuming all the petrol when I want to drive frugally for a bit...

Any ideas? Or cars I missed? Range I would look at is up to R400k.

That's a range of different cars.

What will the car be used for? Town commuting? Highway muncher? etc.

Also what are your requirements (i.e. power, boot space, comfortable seating for 4).

Are you only looking at new cars, or would you consider low mileage second hand?

It'll be my primary car, so used for everything! Road trips, commuting in traffic or highway, pretty much everything. I currently do about 30k per year.

I don't really care about boot space. It should be fast when I want to overtake, and frugal when not, if that's possible haha. 4 seats would be good but not a prerequisite. It's mainly me and my gf in the car. The back gets used for bags and groceries...:p

Mainly new, but would definitely look at low mileage.

Eagle Ford have crazy specials on the Focus ST right now. That is if you dont want to wait for the facelift due soon.

That is why it wasn't on my list...Spoke to the dealer in Hatfield and he said end of the year...which is really far away...:crying:

Would LOVE the facelift version...not enough in the current one to differentiate it from the normal Focus. Pre-facelift Focus, that is.

Edit: Took a look at the Fusion as well, but the boot didn't even align with the rest of the back when closed! WTH! Put me off Ford a bit...unless it was an unlucky demo model.

Edit 2:...holy @#$% that is a good price on the ST though!

Go drive the Focus, or even the Fiesta ST. It's a blast.

Suggestions:

Volvo V40 T4 (R-design perhaps)
BMW 328i F30 - Demo (Might not be the most economical).....Watch the resale on this one though.
Audi A3 1.8T, Mercedes A220, Ford Fiesta ST (bang for buck), Mazda MX5 :)

I'd probably take a second hand Audi A3 Sportback 1.8T S-Tronic. Engine has enough oomph when you put your foot down, but still frugal when driving normally. And that gearbox. :love:
