I owned an Amiga back in the day... so was very excited to read about a re-release... but, alas, it is all a non-mac-mini-ish with no retro kewl...

Following the revival of the legendary Commodore 64, Commodore USA is now bringing back other historical models with powerful modern-day specs. Today, the company unveiled the Commodore Amiga mini PC as well as a new C64X Supreme, a new VIC mini, and an upgraded VIC-Slim keyboard computer now with HDMI output.

The Commodore Amiga mini takes on minimalist styling with a square aluminum housing with rounded corners. Inside, it packs a powerful Intel Core i7 3.5GHz (3.9GHz with Turbo Boost) quad-core processor, 16GB of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 430 GPU with its own 1GB of RAM, and a 1TB SATA hard drive. It also sports two WiFi antennae, Bluetooth, a slot-loading Blu-ray drive, and a slew of ports, including four USB 3.0, four USB 2.0, HDMI, DVI, and DisplayPort.

The C64x continues the retro styling that Commodore fans celebrate, but now features Intel’s D2700 dual-core 2.13GHz CPU, 4GB of RAM, NVIDIA’s GeForce GT520 GPU, and comes with a 1 or 3TB hard drive, among other upgraded specs. The VIC mini has the same specs, but is wrapped in the same aluminum housing as the Amiga, while the VIC-Slim does a modern take on the keyboard computer form factor and packs an Intel 2.13GHz dual-core D2700 processor with 2GB of RAM, and a 1TB SATA hard drive.

I hacked that off its motherboard when it sadly died.

/sobs & wails again
/louder for dramatic effect

I teached kinds in private school on C64, but owned ZX Spectrum and later Amstrad C128(?). Both were better in many aspects. C64 BASIC was a crap designed for games. These days these machines were used for serious programming job, before IBM PC became popular (cloned). We have got C, Pascal, Forth for these machines (even COBOL argh!!!) :)

Does not grab me. Sorry no forgiveness from me :p

This was my Amiga...

Had the same one followed by a A1200.

+1

This looks nice but the price is just stupid, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AmigaOne_X1000

Another option is to get a A1200 or A4000 of eBay etc. People are still developing hardware for these things to make them better & the modding scene is quite active.

Hayibo @AmigaOne_X1000

I have an old Power PC here... I wonder if it could be used to run ol' AmigaOS 4 ??

/hmmmmm
/ponders to self

Post the details of the PPC here. I know you can run AmigaOS on some Mac Minis.

kilo you are gonna make me surf the net for hours again looking at old demos & stuff getting nostalgic, stop it! :D

I've already got the tune from one of the Wild Copper demos in my head.

Oooooh no, I am not gonna be caught admitting to owning a PowerPC on a public forum twice in one night.
Uh Uh. No way.

<It is a really ancient Mac clone Umax SuperMac S900L>

Still unbelievable what that old hardware can do, especially when it's got a '060 to push it along ;)

RIP Jack Tramiel :(

Sad news today. Jack Tramiel, founder of Commodore International and computer legend has passed away at the age of 83, according to Forbes. After surviving imprisonment at Auschwitz during WWII Tramiel went on to lead an aspiring life. Probably best know for Commodore International, and in the gaming community at large.

Between typewriters, calculators, and gaming systems like the Atari many might not known Jack Tramiel’s name, but he was a legend that produced some iconic products like the Commodore 64 back in the 80′s. Here’s a great quote by Martin Goldberg, a writer on the Atari brand:
Jack Tramiel was an immense influence in the consumer electronics and computing industries. A name once uttered in the same vein as Steve Jobs is today, his journey from concentration camp survivor to captain of industry is the stuff of legends.”

Jack’s love for technology and his aggressive business practices we can thank for driving down the price of personal computers during the 80′s, and made them what they are today. His legacy will continue forever. Tramiel is survived by his wife, three sons, and their families.
