I've just bought, or rather about tobuy, a Honda Accord and can't wait to get my hands on it. Everythings been sorted, just need to sign on the dotted line.
Should I rather wait till 1 April or will the purchase be covered under the act if i sign today?

Not sure how it works with vehicles... but it will only work on the 1st - I'd wait the two days... and make sure the documents are dated as such.

rather wait for the act to be in place

As someone who's been through hell after buying a brand new VW a month ago and not being able to get a replacement or refund, you should DEFINITELY wait.

I bought a new led screen and after setting it up for the first time had a dead pixel. The shop owner refused to take it back so I'm stuck with it now. I bought in on the 5th of march and a friend told me after I said what happened that the new consumer act will force them to take it back. Is this true and does it apply to me even though I bought it before 1st April?

Nope. Some manufacturers specifiy a number of dead pixels required before the display can be declared effective. It's horribly unfair I know, because even 1 dead pixel pisses me off a lot, it's like all you can see on the screen. Thats another reason why I love Samsung LCD's because they don't have that bull**** policy.

Even if it wasn't for that, you bought it before the act was in place, so I highly doubt it will have an effect anyways.

My Samsung guarantee explicitly state that 5 or less stuck pixels will not be seen as a failure...

All LCD's have dead pixels... that's a fact of life.
The current manufacturing processes cannot accommodate a virtually flawless LCD panel.
My cellphone claims to have 5 stuck pixels, I cannot find any of them.
An LCD I am developing with, has one stuck pixel, I can see it and it doesn't cause issues.

Weird - mine doesn't to have any - and I ran it through various colours and patterns... my facts of life are obviously different to yours.

Likely in places that you cannot see, like for example at the edge where the casing overlaps the glass. All LCD manufacturers quote a dead pixel ratio in their technical documentation.

What is that supposed to mean?

Now who's going to complain about a pixel you can't see because its under the casing? You'd void your warranty just be removing the casing to see it.

A pixel is a certain size - if its dead and on screen - you're going to see it.

Depends on the size of the screen... like I said... I can't see the ones on my cellphone.

The CPA only applies to things purchased from/after 1 April. So do yourself a favour and wait till Friday before signing anything. The CPA will NOT be retroactively applied.

It makes me so sad to see all the hordes of people who post things like "Yay I can't wait for 1 April then I can go cancel my gym contract/cellphone contract etc." They'll be in for a shock.
