New DSL installation Query

Hi,

So I need to get DSL installed at home (in a complex currently no line in our Unit) - but am thinking of getting a capped package from Crystal Web or Vox or the like and letting them manage the DSL from their side.

So should I call Telkom - get them to come do the physical line installation - and then signup with the ISP of my choice and let them do the DSL portion?

What's the best way to go about this?

You must first find out from body corporate if they have telkom infrastructure in the complex.

It took Telkom 4 months to come and install a line at my place.

Well, first you need to apply for a voice package from telkom, once thats installed apply for adsl via crystal web.

Why voice package first? Or am I missing something? Just apply for a dsl package on Telkom's website? Go for the self install?

Personally wouldn't bundle my line with an ISP. Once your line is installed sample an ISP or two?

Yeah - that was just sorted out.

Umm... yes. Or apply on their website?

Rather keep the line with Telkom !!!!!!!!

You pay it a bit more but if you ever need to port your line it becomes a problem, where Telkom doesn't know where your line is and neither does the ISP and know one cares cos you aren't going to be paying them anymore. It's also another way your ISP locks you down (you are going to want a quick way out with your ISP at some point).

This will mean you have to deal with Telkom but at least you know its done. Too many people have reported a fault to their ISP and nothing came of it cos their ISP did nothing with the information.

Yep that was me setup was fun, but straightforward. Only through my stupidness, that I lost my username and password that was initially sent to me via SMS, so I can't get a connection yet, as I'm now waiting on them to resend me those details.

So just ordered the line installation - will do the DSL self install once the line is in.
