DStv Premium streaming package launched for R699

MultiChoice has launched a 12-month contract for its streaming-only DStv Premium package for R699 per month. The new deal was added to the DStv website on Tuesday morning.

The offer was released with an update to the DStv Stream app, promising enhancement to the user experience.

I recently re-activated my streaming only package for a month, boy... what a waste, the app is horrible on my LG TV (Even the one on my Apple TV is k@k) Feels 500% slower than netflix to navigate and find anything, menus are a mess, series and movies are incorrectly tagged and classified etc..

And even putting all the above aside, the quality of the content has reduced significantly since I last had it activated about a year ago.... could only find like 1 or 2 series and movies to watch in a whole month?

Low bitrate that cant even stream properly.

I would be happy if I can just get Youtube,Netflix reliability and consistency

That would be awesome improvement, don't even need to go 4K, just do proper 1080p 50FPS, properly.

But this is Africa - the only thing that gets done mostly properly is theft and corruption.

Not worth it with how dogshit their Samsung TV apps app is, and I can't be bothered to pay for an Android box.

Which is highly annoying considering how smooth and easy to use the Netflix app is in comparison. Even the YouTube app is a dream to use.

The app is absolute rubbish. It's buggy, slow, laggy, the scrolling through the channels is pathetic. The Google TV app is pure, unadulterated horse manure. The Apple TV is is semi usable but still so buggy.
Changing the vid quality does absolutely nothing. It's just there as a section. Vid quality is still rubbish no matter how many times your try to force it to 1080p. And even when you do try to force it to 1080p it never holds, it sometimes just drops to the lowest quality available because they have really terrible upstream capacity.

All these "upgrades" are just eye candy. I actually feel sorry for the front end developers and marketers, because the real engineering is lacking. I watched the last two rugby games on decoder and streaming respectively and the quality difference was chalk and cheese.

R699 p/m on an app ONLY makes sense for the sport that D$TV offers... but even then... the resolution is poor, the bitrate is suboptimal and the buffering and reliability is really bad. And add limitations on usage and being contract-tied for a year.... ja nee... f0koff asseblief.
