New Dvd player. What to get?

So from day 1 my LG music system (5.1) dvd player had issues. I can always play copied dvds, but with most new and rented (and polished) dvds, we have problems playing. So I really had enough.

So I need a player, Must have a 5.1 speaker output, I dont really need bluray or anything the like, but I suppose all good players can play it. It must also be able to play radio, and usb. So it is just to replace the music system's player, radio, all in one.

Now what makes are good to buy these days? I dont know if Lg, samsumg or these makes you get everywhere is really that good.

If money wasnt the problem, what would you get?
 
rather get a media player of sorts. i have not touched a dvd in ages

Ah, c'mon guys. I think plenty of people still have big DVD libraries.

Though DVDs have a lifespan of 100 years, so you only about 2 years left to use them :D

Ye - still got my library of DVD's and CD's. They get touched once every few months when I clean the dust off them :D

Your best bet would be an Oppo, if you want best picture quality. You'll have to import. You get region free Bluray and DVD and even 4K upconversion. But I'd go with any region free BD/DVD player. I own a Pioneer region free BD.

U can buy at Bombay Electronics or 220Volts.

And NO, DVDs are not outdated. There is a ton of stuff released new, and old re-releases on DVD, but especially from Region 1 and Region A (BD).
 
Just check if your new dvd player is compatible with your CRT TV...

Seriously get a smart blu ray player, that way when the time comes you can use it as a proper media center. Do you get netflix/hulu on any BR players?
 
Thing is my 2 kids have a lot of their own dvds and cds. And sometimes we do rent dvds, not much. Thats why I must get a dvd player, or blue ray. Now, what make guys?

I would get a Sony Blu ray player, will be able to play DVD's no problem and you will be able to play Blu ray also.

Buy some cheap Logik or similar player from Game with a 2-Year warranty. If it breaks, take it back and get another, upgraded version for the same as your refund :D. Bought my daughter such a player for R330 and tt mainly plays content from external USB devices as opposed to DVD/CD's
 
Is Sony & Samsung really that good? What about Harman Kardon? I dont have any experience with it, just saw the make the other day, and it looked quite top notch. Then there's also Pioneer, technics ( do they still exist?) My problems with these stuff you get at the main retail stores, is it is made purely to sell lots, dont think quality is really so good.

I dont have any experience with ps3, media players or anything like that. I dont even use my dvd player that much, mostly the kids plays their stuff on it, and I use it for the better sound quality when watching series., so my concern is the sound quality, my wife's concern is it must be able to actually plays dvd's without problems.

I know that media players and the like is maybe better in your opinions, but for me it would just be a waste of money.

Are you looking for a DVD/speaker combo? If not I wouldn't worry too much about brand.
